View Full Version : Smoke result. Test number 1
fxgogo 05-12-2002, 12:29 AM Well here is my first test with smoke. I used the cheen shader. This was after exhaustive tests with fresnel and falloff. I got the best results with this. Comments please.
I have not focused on the particles yet. They are sphere on a particle stream. I will in the end have a couple of particles doing different things to help create a sense of depth.

Not bad at all
I am still getting to grips with Pyrocluster.I always learn quicker with a written manual as opposed to a pdf :)

Pretty nice :) This was w/ out Pyrocluster right, hence the cheen ?
Can't wait to see further posted results- could you post some settings ?
See you,

Sorry about the delay in getting back. The settings were quite simple in the end. I had three settings checked: Gradients, Diffuse and Transparency. Here are each's settings:
Gradients:
colour left: 185,236,255
colour right: 255,240,206
opacity left (at 25%): 0,0,0
opacity right (at 100%):10,10,10
Diffuse was white at full brightness, using the Orean-Nayer model with illumination at -50%
Transparency was set at 1, with internal reflection checked and solid object unchecked.
My particle system was a set of 3 spheres at three different sizes, although I can't remember if the picture I posted was using just one sphere. The emmitter had settings of this:
Birth rate: 25
birth rate (rendered): 100
Visibility: 100%
Start emission: 0
Stop Emission: 125
Lifetime: 500F 30%
Speed: 150m 50%
Rotation: 30deg 100%
Scale 50%
End Scaling 1
Seed 0
both boxes unchecked
Hope that helps. I will try to get some more pics up this weekend, although I am transplanting my machine into a new Antec case, so that might take a while.

The render times were not bad at all. A minute or two a frame I seem to remember. I have an Athon 1.2ghz with a gig of ram, to put it in perspective.
<----bumping this up so I can try this when I get home :D

Yeah, I was going to come back to my smoke experiments shortly, but with R8 on its way, there does not seem to be a reason to do it anymore.
