Animation Guild Local 839 has reached a tentative three-year deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers

There is also an increase in the number of hours employees will be required to work to keep benefits

hmm, wonder how much of an increase.. wondering if its a lot if that basically levels out any gains (kinda like getting a raise of 2 percent but working 2 percent more hours.. so basically nothing)

Yeah plus inflation per year is anywhere between 1.5-5% (besides the beginning of the this year due to the bad economy where there has been a deflation). But normally, thats an average of 3.25% a year in inflation.

That minimum number of hours is not a work-week number. It's a minimum per year to qualify for benefits. Few animators work full-time for a year. This minimum allows some to retain coverage even when they dont' have continuous employment.

The Animation Guild blog has a post (http://animationguildblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/new-tag-contract-2009-2012.html) that explains some of the whys and why-nots of their contract. It's not much, but how good a deal do the non-union animators have?
