Hello everyone out there in cg land...after a break from maya i'm about to jump into another personal project...but mainly i've been practicing head patchmodelling...i purchased 3 of the gnomon dvd's and although they gave me the knowledge of how to use the tools...i feel somewhat.........left hanging...i just dont know where to start...for example making complex clothing or armor or something
so here is my list of demands-:
i need to know how you guys go about making complex
-clothing (suit, semi futuristic fashions.....anything)
-armor (samurai, futuristic, medieval.....anything)
-objects that can be manipulated (i.e a belt buckle, top of a gun that cocks back...etc.)..

i'm not talking about some super step bystep detaild description(unless u want too;)) just a lil' guidance

if any of you wizards/CG gods out there understand what i'm asking and could find it in your heart to help...all of the determind cg-wizard-wannabe-bootcamp-maggots out there like myself...it would be greatly appreciated

Hi.

Err, I think you are in the wrong place to ask questions. Try posting in 'technique' forums found in the main page of CGtalk.

BTW, for that 'armour' you were asking, it depends on what program you use. For me (and well, 'many people') polymodeling + meshsmooth using 3DSMAX will do.

If you are using maya you can use cloth to do the clothing and garments. You can still do it with nurbs or polygons just alot more to deal with if you are animating this type of stuff. You are better off modeling everything else in polygons unless you enjoy nurbs. As far as belt buckles and a gun cocked back that is all apart of animation which would involve grouping, setting rotations and constraints, etc.
