Hi Rev -
September - according to someone at the 3DBuzz forum who was told by a Maxon rep. Take it with a grain of salt -> rumor.
Srek just wrote on the german forum that thereŽll be a point release in a couple of days - who knows? Hope dies last....

LOL
Srek (Bjorn Marl) is our direct link to Maxon.
He's a programmer I believe.
His site has a lot of great Xpresso and TP resources:

A point release ... erhh ... like in 8.1, 8.2 ect.

Yeah--that too
I don't think srek actually codes for maxon as a programmer.
I think he is more on the public relations side of things and stuff like that.
Thats why you see him post stuff here. Yes he is a very very reliable source.
Erm... What is fbx? :hmm:

Its a bridge format that allows projects from many of the popular 3d apps to be shared in another app. In theory you could work on a project in MAya and pass the file off to someone else who uses Lightwave.
What makes fbx important to C4d users currently is that the character animation app MOTIONBUILDER works with fbx files. Its an incredible CA system and having fbx available to C4d would mean that all character animation could be done in Motionbuilder than brought back inot C4d for rendering.

Hi,
i don't program anything for Maxon. My main job is Quality Assurance which includes the supervision of Beta testing and giving the Maxon programmers any help they might need.
My work on the forums is mainly my private fun (except on a few occasions), and therefore sometimes limited.
Cheers

Got it! Tak folks!
I'll keep on wishing, hoping, thinking, praying....

From Postforum:
Animation:
Should C4D keep on developing CA moduel as the messiah and MB
both looks far more attractive than Mocca, so please give us
FBX
ThornŽs reply:
I think you may see this sooner than later :).

It's a good question. I have motion builder, so I'd like to see the FBX plugin. On the other hand, I'd like to see Maxon continue to perfect the C4D animation tools and bones to every degree possible.
Me too!
IŽm just hoping Thorns reply indicates that Fbx support is part of the soon to come point release. Well September is soon too .... patience!

oh this sounds interesting. im on the virge of getting myself an external CA app. was planning on messiah since they got that connection to R8 now it seems. but if fbx lies just around the corner i seem to have more choices =P
who has used both motionbuilder and messiah and care to tell the ups and downs of the apps?

I would say looking at the three main standalone apps for animation messiah makes the least sense to me in terms of using it rather then a full fledged app.
What I mean is that messiah's rigging and workflow are just like that of maya and max and C4D, where animanium and motionbuilder are using a very different system, one highly ideal and appealing to classical animators for one. If I was going to get a different app for animating, I don't see why I'd get one that works similar to the app I'm already using (even if it does it a little better) Basically the appeal in motionbuilder when I got it was the very different system, much like mirai's and even more evident now in animanium.
Anyways thats just opinion, I'm with MV, while I'd like to see fbx supported soon, I do hope C4D doesn't give up on animation tools. I'd hate to see C4D become a tweaker and renderer for me. But Main reason I'd like tos ee FBX suported, is not really because of motion builder (I mean its not liek a fortune was speant on the app) but more because I'd like to see it used to bring things in from maya and such. A lto fo maya users are really taking note of C4D, especially its renderer, and with BP now supporting maya, a lot of maya users were interested in it, and ould really get to know C4D's basic renderer and material system through BP2, leading to them wanting to use itas a renderer, so we need some sort of a bridge.

I did say that... but the question I was answering was something along the lines of "When will it be released? Are we talking a couple months or a couple of years?"
IOW, I meant it wasn't going to be a couple of years... I really wish I could expound more on the progress of FBX, but I'm not allowed to.
I know it's hard to have patience, but do be patient. :)

Thanks thorn -
youŽre right ofcourse - guess I had to high hopes of seeing FBX just around the corner and had your answer mixed up with it :argh: .
Been waiting for it - for what seems like ages now - , but I really want it to be as good/bugfree/functioning as can be when released. If that needs a couple of more weeks IŽll have all the patience in the world.
Cheers
pit
seriously I thought I was gonna have kids before this was out.
well lets hope its only a couple of weeks.
I will wait a couple of weeks any time believe me.

Believe me, I'm just as anxious as anyone else... I have big dreams of bringing scenes from max and rendering them in C4D, or going bringing them through C4D to translate into AfterEffects.

I've been pretty happy with Maxon's CA stuff. The one thing that would push it over the edge would be the Motionbuilder-type realtime feed back.
I got the MB Freealnce app, but I think I'm going to keep working in Cinema for my CA. I'd rather learn new stuff in Cinema, thean learn yet another app...
