Well, as you can see I really haven't decorated much, but I'll be posting all renderings up to the final one in this post.

Any suggestions now are very welcome seeing how early into this I am... I'm going for a full high-object interior here...

P.S. Let me be the first to say that I think the light coming from off to the left should be turned down.

Is 77 views and no replies a good thing or a bad thing?

hehehe

i wonder why i didn't noticed that... :)
looks good to me so far, i like scenes like that!

don't get your hands on the blurry reflection of the ground mat, it's perfect.
the shadows are to weak, i think thats because of area shadowing BUT the light source is too far away - OR try to set up the bounces of your GI settings.
the walls need more "structure", they are too clean - and they could be whiter.
i like your bar chairs :buttrock:

BUT one question: you use vray - which max version do you use?
i got the problem with vray (1.09.03g) that max crashes, though i do only "normal" things like copy objects or getting materials in the editor :hmm:
whats up with your configuration???

looking forward to an update and perhaps an answer... thanks in advance

wooo wooo!

a i looked to it a second time, i noticed following:

- smoothing needed at the arcs
- which light source produces the glow in the upper right corner just beneath the balustrade?
- check your size relations between your objects (the table, the chairs)

well, thats what i saw so far... maybe more if i looked a third time at it?

nice composition. what about some more detail in the mezzanine railing? the wine glass doesn't sit on the table properly. hmmm . . . also why not just use the lights you have hanging there to light the scene. it's a little wierd to have one light source coming from head high (seems to me) in another room when you could get some good contrasts from the obvious sources in the active scene.

peace.

zeromancer1972: I had problems with VRay while I used max 5.0, which is actually why I looked into finalRender for a while. After upgrading to max 5.1 I no longer had issues with VRay except for the rare object cloning crash. Also thanks for the crits and suggestions. I'll do another rendering after adjusting my bounces and the lighting etc., and post some screens of my settings.

godeus25: What sort of detail did you have in mind for the railing?? I'm still unsure of what I'm going to do for my final lighting because I'm not yet done cutting holes for windows and doors. I'll probably end up strengthening the lights from above but there will eventually be other sources as well.

Andrew

perhaps finish them in wood, maybe two different kinds. the railing itself something dark and the posts something lighter. It might end up tying together with the bar foot-rest. or maybe do the railing in a rich dark wood and the posts in black to set off the table legs. that's an awsome table btw. i've always liked those.

those stools are starting to look a bit short as well . . . ;)

I like the original image better. The last one looks too CG to me. Maybe it's the saturated colors and the proportion problems w/ the bottle and the bottom of the stools.

Nice though. I only wish that it's interior of my house.

cheers:beer:

Still gotta tweak the neon sign, but here are some additional changes and additions... Been away for a bit so I'm hoping to have a lot of work done tonight...

-The glass on top of the table looks like a puddle of water to me.

-On any chrome objects I suggest griming them up a little bit. Gives them a more realistic look.

-Marble texture on the Archway seems a big large.

-- Looks almost like you can see underneath the wall in the back of the render.

- The painting on the top sticks too far out from the wall. ( can tell that too much light is getting behind it)

- Work on all the glass.

-Rug seems to be to flat, seems almost like its in the floor boards.

-I suggest maybe leaving the wood textures out of the picture and sticking to marble for the railings.

I still think if your going for realism your first image was the best. The abstract you've been adding to the scene is good, but thier is a point of going beyond.

All very good suggestions CreativeM1nd... I agree with you on every single one except the one about seeing through the bottom of the back wall. The light you're seeing there is the reflective wood trimming around the bottom of the wall. Eventually that room will be lit as well.

I have been doing a lot of screwing around with glass in VRay and I think my next rendering will show better results.

I'm not sure if my texturing abilities are good enough to dirty up the chrome on the stools, but I definitely understand what you're saying so maybe I'll give it a shot.

The painting on the second floor is a 3D releif that is meant to stick out of the wall a little bit. I'm actually not sure by the look of my last rendering if the frame surrounding it is thick enough heightwise...

The rug was fixed before even reading your post :)

Thanks again, and I hope to see what you think of my future pics..
