thanks for that..
very cool like your style bud...think that drop of orange colour is a master stroke and the top flashing text in the camera pan around...works really well....unusual image.

very cool movie it has great style not really any crits!
Good work!

thanks!
it's really fun to work with rpf... you make your time-intensive 3d render and afterwards put some illustrator files on track in after effects... it's a sweet workflow... btw this is my second post here, but learned alot! great attitude here!

Any chance of a tutorial? :)

rizon,
can you tell us a little more about how to use rpf data from C4D and any resources that helped you?
thanks.

Hah Joel!
We posted at the same time...seems we're thinking along the same lines.

cinema:
01. camera animation
02. render movie
03. delete all objects in your scene
04. render as rpf
after effects:
01. import movie
02. import rpf as sequence
03. put both on the timeline (the movie, without 3d tag, just as background)
04. all files (pix, illustrator files, etc...) you put in the composition with 3d tag are now 3d synchronized with the background movie.
note:
it's best that you write down the positions of the objects in your cinema scene, by this you know where to put your files in ae...
hope this is clear...

oh yes, the rpf sequence is your camera data... drag it in the composition, ctrl-click and choose something with camera.

Ok...is there any need for something like an rpf importer plugin (such as the one by ElectricFx)?

Reminds me of MK12's stuff a bit.
I wish I knew all their tricks. :curious:

Rizon,
What version of after effects does this require? I'm still using 4.1.

ae 5.5
btw: ae 6 is out, only 1.000 for the pro bundle alot cheaper than the previous one

Nice little clip there Rizon! I have tried something similar , but could not seem to get AE 5.5 standard version to interpret the rpf file to camera keyframes. Do you need the Production bundle version for this trick? Also, what advantage does your method have over exporting an AE file (aec) straight out of Cinema...as doing such will also keep lighting info?
Forgive my ignorance, but what is rpf? The video is great! Looks like a fun technique.

it was new to me too, but somehow someway it worked... i think, i am not sure, you can export the path of your lights too but not the light itself. oh yes and mk12 rocks!!!
this is a link i found a month ago, one of dopest things i've seen around, motion theory / nike uptown (http://www.motiontheory.com/basic/movie_nike_uptown_digital.html)

Very nice job on the ani Rizon. And that motiontheory clip is astounding.

I frankly see no reason to use rpf - the camera data is supported by the C4D > AE plugin, so why use rpf?

Hi all,
Was anyone successful using rizon's procedure? I tried but wasn't able to incorporate 2D objects into the 3D scene and have them be seen correctly with the 3D camera data.
Should the RPF data and 2D layers have 3D tags...and what else?

i've made some 3d compositions straight in after effects, heavy rendervery very slow but fun to do...

Hi SeanL,
I'm not sure wether you already found out how to do it, but in case you haven't:
- render animation as RPF.
- Import files in AE (don't forget to choose RLA/RPF sequence)
- Drag them to the timeline
- Goto Animation > Keyframe assistant > RPF Camera import
- create a layer (solid, still, movie, whatever) and turn it into 3D by selecting Layer > 3D Layer.
- now change the coordinates, rotational values and so on. You can use the same coordinates as in C4D if you want to position stuff, but keep in mind that AE uses a "flipped" axis system (+z in C4D is -z in AE)
BUT: it's much easier to do this by using the after effects plugin, because you get more data (like for instance lights).
The fact that you get more data with the AE plugin than with the RPF import method has nothing to do with RPF, but with the fact that AE cannot read all the RPF data. If you want full advantage of the RP file format, you have to use other software like for instance combustion.
Cheers,
BaRa

Thanks brammelo,
Since then I've successfully used the plugin. Still not sure why RPF didn't work, but as you say, plugin is better anyway.
