Title: Abandoned Villa (game Art)
Name: Claudio Tolomei
Country: United Kingdom
Software: Maya, Photoshop

This is my latest game art work. I try to acheve the feeling from the wonderful reference painting. I use Maya for modeling and the final image is all real time view from Unreal 3 engine. Hope you like it. :)

Thank you all guys.
Here is the moodboard i did before start my work.
My final goal was to achieve a 3d unreal painting. I really like the reference painting so i try to simulate that kind of feeling for a possible nexgen game style.
this is the moodboard
http://features.cgsociety.org/newgallerycrits/g08/40808/40808_1247612921_large.jpg

i will probably work more on that mood because i want finis the entire scene :)

Well... this looks awesome but if you want to make it look as close to the image you linked I think you should work on the lighting a bit. There's more of a yellow tint to the image. The sun behind the clouds spreads an orange light. That's my 2 pennies and of course I'm saying that without knowing the Unreal3 limitations. Would love an update

Superbly done! My knowledge in 3D is very limited but I can spot a well worthy piece when I see one. I love the modeling of the trees. I think that alone is what makes this image stand out. Of course that goes with the combination of your good lighting and texturing job as well. It really pays to have excellent reference to work with. Thumbs up!

Nice to actually see some game enivornment stuff in here :)
Great lighting and texturing - such nice clean models too. One small thing that I think could do with more work is the grass on the right side of the image in ur first shot. I also think theres some shadowing issues with the night scene.

Nice work dude.. Hope you're enjoying Gunwharf :P

Hi, just to say : Wowww ... and a second big one when you think it's just rendered with an Unreal Engine ! (for those who don't know, UE is a realtime 3D game engine, not a specialised renderer like VRay or Maxwell Renderer ).

This is what I call ART!

Simply awesome!!!

You should post render using full scene antialiasing on gfx card > why not to smooth it when card can do it in realtime too...

PS: my browser scale it a bit down (smoothing edges) and I couldnt tell its "just" from Unreal engine not directly from sw renderer like mray!

Excellent job!

hahha, dont you LOVE how the render time is like, just printscreen!!

UT3 FTW!

I was looking to doing something like this in the engine actually. What do your tree meshes look like? I've been tinkering with different ideas on how to model them, but yours look fantastic.

I like this style and subject very much. Groups of such trees are my dream.

Image is based upon paint of Frederic Kruseman (1817-1882). He was not 'Gothic', more 'eclectic' painter.

The windows-'gun slot' on erker are slightly large. Some quoins stick very out, but brick walls and corners are perfect flat and have no disturbance.
I'd add consoles below balcony, it is old mansion.

The absence of clear river-edge structure between ground and water gives impression of a flood.

The cool shadows are my favorite part. The shadows cast on the trunks and lower branches of the trees on the left are very beautiful.

Hello Claudio, i love this Abandoned Villa piece. I have had this same picture on my desktop for 5 or 6 months now! That is unheard of for me. Usually i appreciate an art piece for a week or two before changing up. The colours and atmosphere are magical and warm. They seem to draw me in, as if to say, "come in, explore further". It appears impossible to tire of this artwork. I love it!
