We are proud to introduce Shatter It!, the Voronoi-based precutting tool of Pulldownit already avaliable for Maya.

You can find a demo tutorial here,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foPWOUV0AkU (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foPWOUV0AkU)

The demo version is online, visit this link to see how it works

very cool! Going to try it out!

Oh send you a file to shatter? argh, I can shatter way more the 512 with voronoi in maya with no plug-in how does that help to send a file? If you can make even that tool for maya linux 64bit I'd buy that. So nice and quick, with no extra steps like other methods.

The video is cool!

Whoa this looks pretty good! Does it require anything specific with the geo (no holes, no history, etc)? Does it provide UV's to the new faces and/or new pieces?

hi David,

We are targetting Maya linux as the next version of pulldownit, but I can not give you a release date yet, meanwhile I remind linux users Maya files are fully compatible between windows, linux and mac, so you can make the dynamics stuff in windows then open the scene in linux to finish it.

Shatter it! works with convex or concave meshes or meshes with holes, only double side objects are still not allowed, for instance a torus is ok a shell torus is not. One of the mottos in Thinkinetic is take the geometry from the viewport "as-is" so dont worry about, history, pivot offsets, parenting,etc..

Currently Tthe UV mapping is lost when fracturing therefore you have to texture the models after precutting them, this issue will be fixed for the next update.

Some studios do that but why it can be hard to convice the owners of the workflow is that they have to buy windows, then buy a copy of maya on windows (lic don't transfer over). So in some cases it is possible to do that but a lot of places I've worked just have you find another way.
Let me know about linux! I'm on board.

Scriptting in Maya is very powerfull, and I encourage everybody to use it becouse you can get really good utilities, but scriptting has also its limitations. I dont know the script your are talking about but Im seriusly doubt any script is able to do all that we have showed in the demo clip of our tool, please upload a similar video ( shatter + dynamics) with this script for checking you are right.

Our technology is SDK embeded, not scripted, the advantages are many and speed of computation is the big one.

The online version of Shatter it is for free too.

Oh, I don't doubt the power of plugins over scripts. Toward the beginning of that thread, the author had it in a plugin form, but somewhere around the middle changed to python scripting to make it available to every platform.

Here is the post on that thread of the latest revision of his shatter script:

Check the rest of the thread to see the progress. :-)

The same author also made a dynamics script on Highend3d called Destructor to finish the shatter off with an animation. So, you are right that it's not all in the same package. ;-)

Check it out!

cheers!

I have to point out that Dave Greenwood has written most of the functionality in Python.. I only wrote a UI to work off of his Python functions in hopes it would make the Voronoi Shatter script easier to use :)

What is the pricing for a yearly contract for either Pulldown It! Pro or Shatter It!?

Also the 'demo version' of Shatter It! is literally a demonstration where we post a model to a forum and then you post a shattered version of said model, not a trial version. You should edit your original post to reflect that rather than redirecting people to your forum to read a list of rules.

I think the potential of your tool is quite awesome!

The 'demo' version you provide is sadly an unfortunate letdown. I suppose I understand as a developer why you're offering your tool in this fashion but it is definitely misleading, even with an edited post at the link. I won't speak for everyone but I know I definitely cannot send my models out due to NDA's with the projects I am working on and I can see this potentially being the case for a number of people. Regardless of that fact alone, the turn around time to wait for a model (even if you're pretty quick to respond) is probably too long and will stop someone from working.

I may be not looking at this demo in the right way though. The capability of Pulldown-It looks pretty awesome as well as your SDK Shattering plugin. I hope some form of it is made available for us to download, albeit probably crippled due to a pricing structure. Are you not releasing a price publicly due to competition (like DMM, Fracture, etc....) ?

Hi Azshall,

Shatter it! is actually a feature of Pdi Pro, it is very powerfull but so simple in its works that we didnt arrive to the right way for making a downloadable demo without loosing Its taste becouse of weird limitations and at the same time saving functionality for costumers. We think the Online version is a great idea becosue everybody can take advantage of it without limitations and even platform and system independent. Obvously it is not adecuated for using it in commercial projects with tight schedules, for this you should use the commercial version. Anyway companies interested in checking the shatter with owner models can contact us to send it and we will return it precutting in private , you can add and NDA also and we will sign it.

Shater it! Online is a demo and also a community project for sharing shattered models.

We are interested in knowing the real volume of potential purchasers of our tool this is becouse you have to contact us to know about licencing.
