Is it possible to make the brush tool have no overlap effect? In other words if you have a brush with 50% opacity, it never exceeds 50% no matter how many brush strokes you have on top of each other.

how about painting with 100% and setting the layer opacity to 50 that should do the trick
shouldnt it?

Yes, that's exactly what I want.
So, looking at the replys to that thread, I assume it's just not possible in Photoshop

painting at 100% opacity with the brush and setting the Layer opacity to whatever % you want is the best way to do this.
