Hey all,

I am using Maya and Mental Ray to render shadows. The problem that occurs is that they are always a bit noisy and not smooth enough! From what I have already read I should have just needed to up the Shadow Rays in the spot lights attributes to get a smoother shadow but it doesnt seem to have any effect. Iv upped loads of settings now and still doesnt look smooth enough.

This image has Light Radius 0.3, Shadow Rays 40 and Ray Depth Limit 6. In the render settings I also have it set to Production quality so the raytracing options are up enough.
As you can see even with these settings the shadow isnt particulaly smooth. Its all lambert materials and this image hasnt lost quality just because its a jpeg, it looks like this in my maya render.

Any help and suggestions to get a smoother shadow would be much appreciated!

Thanks :)
