Shouldn´t be ranting without knowing the new features, but 350 Euro/$ for the update! Is it just me or does that sound a little to much?
I, ofcourse, had hoped for less of an expense - add the 50 Euro/$ we had to pay to get BP to work with Rel 8.......... hmmmm.... hope the new features are worth the price!

Oh - Maxon - don´t be to hard on Basis 1 for beeing to fast with the announcement - they´re such nice guys!

Edit: No printed manuals with the update :annoyed:

Hmm, for that money it had better be a _big_ upgrade.

No printed manuals with the upgrade? Now that _is_ being cheap...

For me it's likely to end up being a choice between this, and Zbrush - which is a similar price, so I'm eagerly awaiting details...

Cheers - Steve

:hmm: Basis 1 is closed temporarily?

Hi,
i got only two things to say

1. Printed manuals are still available, you can order BP 2 with or without them. Without is of course cheaper

2. Before you judge the price wait for the features ;)

So please watch the Maxon homepage for more info later today.

Cheers

Hi Pit,
no problem there :)
We wanted to avoid this situation because partial information will give a distorted view.

@ Srek: Any chance a poor XL-owner like myself could get the old BP as a free upgrade after this release? :)

Srek

Hi James,
BP 1 has been sold for a much reduced price. That was your chance ;)

JamesMK: that's something you'll have to ask Programpaketet. ;)

But I think it will take a while before Maxon will redistribute BP1 again. Mind you, they did it with C4D 5 - for free on a magazine, so sooner or later you will probably also find BP1 for free somewhere. But not in the near future, I am afraid.

Cheers,
BaRA

I could have guessed :D

Ah, never hurts to ask, though!

1. Ok, at least there's the option.

2. Fair enough.
I didn't say it was too expensive, only that it better be a substantial upgrade to warrant that price - which I really hope it is because then everyone's happy.

Oh well, better get back to waiting then...

Cheers - Steve

I placed an order for BodyPaint yesterday with Rafi..... Am I getting BodyPaint 2 or the original? She won't be available to answer my questions until 8am PST.... Anyone got a clue? Also, I wonder if the upgrade will be that much after buying a week prior to the new release.....

Thanks,

Kevin

My guess is that if you paid the Summer promo price, you'll be getting BP1 - and there won't be any discount for buying BP2. Otherwise it wouldn't have made sense for Maxon to do the discount in the first place.

If you paid the full ($675? I forget) price for BP1, you would have a case.

Could be wrong, of course... :curious:

Did you order the special BP offer? If so, I guess you have to pay the upgrade
price - still cheaper than BP 2!

Where are you getting your information? Do you have a link with the new features?

Thanks,

I edited my original message.

Hi Kevin,

there are no public information available. Adam is like NEO, he went back to the source (but he didn´t manage to destroy it yet :p *kidding adam*).

As Srek already said, watch the MAXON site carefully. And I can only second his statement "Before you judge the price wait for the features".

You know everything has a good reason ;)

Best

As Samir says, the info. should be available very soon, as in today. Can't say more until then.

Man--we're in the Golden days of Cinema here, arent we? Never had so many choices to spend my money on so many great plugins and upgrades for this app.

Exciting.

Ain't that the truth.

Without getting into details, I'm guess it's got something to do with nodes. Sculpting doesn't sound right for a poly-based app, you just seem to end up with a bunch of jagged ripped edges.

Sounds like fun whatever.

@Srek:

will there be a student version of bodypaint 2 (again for about 150€) ?

kmwhitt
07-29-2003, 03:54 PM
Just spoke to Rafi in CA - BodyPaint 2 will be $695.00 bought new.
This includes the new manuals.

She does not have the price yet for upgrading from Version 1 until her conference call with Maxon later this afternoon.

She could not tell me what the upgrade would be for users taking advantage of the summer special versus those that paid full price.
She does, however, think there will be a difference (i.e. - summer special purchasers paying more).......

She will be calling me back later - If interested I will post an update.......

She also can not say when this version will ship....

Thanks for the info Kevin!

Maybe Maxon is monitoring the forums to see what kind of reaction people aree having before choosing an upgrade price. :)

I just bought BP in March for the full price. I hope it is a reasonable upgrade fee just as everyone else does.

Hope not - this would be faulty IMO, there was no mention of the Summer special price being anything other than a full license, not some sort of disadvantaged semi-license.

$349 for the upgrade was what I heard.

Chrissyboy -

I have to agree with you...... That's what a special is afterall....

If what Rafi is telling me is correct the upgrade for existing users should only be $100.00 if you paid $595.00 originally. Let's hope so!

Kevin

I'm seeing $349 for the upgrade over at postforum.... Oh well, I guess we just have to wait and see!

Just got a call from Rafi at Maxon and she said that the upgrade would definitely be $349.00.... So she allowed me to cancel my order for BodyPaint 1 and purchase BodyPaint 2 outright for $695.00 with the manuals........ So, I ended up saving $49.00....

Anyway, that is the update!

hmm kmwitt.

I am pretty sure that adam and the words beta tester and one.

Thats how he knew. However the words adam beta tester and NDA are also probiblyl linked so consider yourself lucky you got any info.

However this was not really a "secret" kinda thing like all the other new things and updates have been. Somehow this got leaked so its not really that big news.

this looks great optimal mapping that works. :)

@ Maxon: Amazing new features - indeed a MAJOR release that´s worth every dime. Hats off to you guys - you did it again!! You leave me wanting this so badly - hell, I´ll order right away - who needs food anyway? ;)

Sorry, once again, for the fuzz I created earlier today with this thread.

i agree its looks amazing and you guys really pushed the boat out..However i still think its expensive for an upgrade....granted there are lotsa new features and the core package price has risen in line with this, competitively it well placed. But they are building on foundations of an earlier product and half the cost of the full version seems awefully steep and greedy!...my ten cents.

:D

I agree with you flingster. I bought BP R1 three weeks before they dumped the prices, and that did sting in my eyes. I think the upgrade price is rediculous, despite the new excellent features.

Hi guys,
As I understand it, BP2 is almost a complete rewrite - 18 month of work and R&D for the guys at Maxon and the result speaks for itself. It IS a lot of money - as I said earlier I had hoped for a less expensive update - but I think the features introduced are well worth the price. Not only will it save you a LOT of time, but surely the pleasure of almost hasslefree uv-editing will overweigh the money spend. This might sound pretty naive, but think of the many hours of joy you´ll get out of this and hold it up against the amount spend. You´ll get the job done in a fraction of the time with a higher quality result. I do earn part of my money with C4D and BP, so i´ll be able to retrieve the costs quickly, but even if that wasn´t the case I´d buy the upgrade. It´s simply to good to resist. Give the demo a go and decide if it´s for you.

Wow - I just posted last week asking about BodyPaint2 development - Maxon does like surprises - this is a very nice surprise. This is exactly what the doctor ordered - projection mapping! I'm glad I held out - I almost considered forking over $1495 to RightHemisphere for DeepPaint3d and DeepUV. The $349 upgrade doesn't look so pricey...
