Hi, I wanted to get crits and help on a room I have been working on in the Sandbox 2 Editor, this is for a mod and this room is surrounded by a nuclear reactor center and this is to be a reception room and I was hoping to get this room to a quality to put on my portfolio and try to land a job after a long search.

First things first, I would suggest looking at references for a similar area to help you out. I think that texture for the concrete wall is too big. Your lighting is way too flat. It looks like your lights are not positioned where the light bulbs are. For interior spaces, the best way to create accurate lighting is to put the light sources in believable spaces, instead of floating in a random spot.

The biggest suggestion I have is to research some other reception areas. I would think a reception area for a nuke plant would actually be in a separate building away from the reactor, so random visitors don't get exposed to nuclear radiation.

Also, look for ideas for things to fill the room with. Right now it looks pretty empty. Maybe there would be a table with magazines in front of/ next to the sofa, maybe some signs on the walls, or a corkboard.

I did think of a cork board before and table but a table idea got shot down by the leader of the mod he does not want me to add anymore models in the environment but I really want to have this as something good to show off skill wise.

Yeah... I agree with the other guys comments. The texture scaling isn't right for alot of things, and I guess there are almost too many things to comment on right now.

I will have to check up on this at a later date to see how things improve/change, but you have some wierd normal issues (couch) now , and the lighting needs quite a bit of work.

Also, as it stand now, I actually didn't even think it was in-engine until I saw the text on the top right. Right now the engine really isn't been utilized properly.

This is a quick post to show the table and board up, the lighting is far from where I want it but the idea of adding more to this room did help for sure =)

Hey hey!! This is a nice improvement. The area is starting to look more believable. Continue adding as much detail as you can. I know you mentioned the mod leader didn't want more, but for your own portfolio keep adding stuff! I think the couch could use some work, it looks too blocky. Good progress, keep it up!

This is a update, I added the papers and tried to go with a better wall, let me know if it works or not.

It's looking better. The wall textures seem low res, what size are they? Also, the couch still looks a bit odd. Has it been unwrapped and textured, or was a dark textured just applied?

The lighting is a little better, but it's a bit blown out. Right now your not really getting any kind of shadows in the corners, or under things like the couch, the ambient lighting is high or something.

The wall is at 512 and yeah a dark texture was applied, pull back on the couch darkness and go for a larger texture on the wall?

I think its weird that you have that style of couch, but its being held up by some puny metal frame on the sides. Typically a big couch like this wouldn't be suspended off the ground by something like that, it would just sit on the ground. There is a little bit of improvement on the couch, the edges aren't so harsh and specular levels make it appear leather/pleathery, which makes me want to sit in it. You could add more detail to it, like stitching, or buttons/the creases from buttons, on the back of it. Take a look at some furniture on the internet or something and you'll see what I mean.

The wall texture needs work. It looks really low res compared to the rest of the scene. I'm not too sure that a concrete wall fits the reception area, as it might be an area that is dressed up to look nicer for guests coming to the nuclear facility that don't work there. Just something to consider.

Also, I don't think that when the room is constructed, they would have pipes hanging below the lighting. I would think the lights were set lower than them.

The papers look good. The ones on the table seem to be glowing a lot from the table for some reason. Try adding some black text to the papers, or magazine covers so they aren't so plain.

Each iteration is getting better, keep at it!

I worked on the couch, gave a sharper wall and tried to make other fixes, could not get lighting just right yet.
