View Full Version : character WIP: snakeman thing
Ashe Tie'skar 07-29-2003, 01:31 AM Hello,
This is a model i have been working on, it is one of my first. I need help with how to create edge loops, and where i can save polys, where i need to straighten or tweak edges or whatever help i can get.
If I need to post any other screen shots with better views or whatever just ask please.
I have seen a few people really get down and draw over other peoples screenshots with better edge loops, etc, and offer some really good advice, i wouldn't mind someone doing that at all for me.
Thanks a million!

Hey cool. If you want some reference to work from I suggest checking out www.he-man.org. The toyline is coming out with some Snake-Men figures soon that might give you some ideas for your model.

Thanks Snakeman.
Ok. I am useing 3D Studio Max 5. I would eventually like to place this model in a game, so i am trying to keep it low poly.
I am looking for advice on what will make it a well modelled low poly character. The big thing i am looking for is: I want help on how to make good use of polygons/triangles.
Thanks in advanced.

ok....
Does anyone see any problem with the mesh that i need to fix before i move on to texturing? Like any problems with deformation or whatever?

I would suggest adding more detail to the chest and stomach. Try adding more definition to the pecs and abs, and possibly make some ribs visible on the outside of the torso.

tip,
when working with low poly slightly exaggerate the muscle definition.
maybe u can save polys by making the hood of the snake connect to his back save u having to define some muscles...will be tuff but if u can pull it off it will be sweet...might i suggest looking at reference of a snake to see how it flares out..

Nice Start!
I would suggest try to bring out the model's form... add a bit more roundness. He seems a bit box box shaped. Try to pull him away from his primative structure.
Can't wait to see textures!

Awesome!
Thanks for the help and advice! I will start working on it as soon as i can. One question i do have, is when you make a model for a computer game, how much muscle definition do you put on a model?
Thanks again! keep the advice coming, i really really apperciate it!
