View Full Version : Localizing detail

I was wondering if there's a better or quicker way to add local detail to a polygonal mesh than what I've been doing.

Basically I select two groups of edges and cut them which results in 12 triangles. Then I go about untriangulating to make quads. Is there a plugin that exists that can automatically, say take the two center end points and move them inwards slightly and then untriangulate? Or maybe someone can let me know about a more efficient way to get the same result. I've posted an image to help explain what I'm talking about.

Thanks for any input.

arrgh not the return on the n-gons thing.

Hopefully with the announcment of MAX 6, there will be some big change for maxon too.

yada yada, the guys with wisdom keep telling us to become a better modeler by using the Quads and triangles we already have. they say this to us as if "N-Gons are for the amateurs".
Blah blah ...Me want my N-GONS!!! :p

Cutter works with 8;)
