CGTalk - How to start up?

I've seen alot of images here and I have to say, all of them are awesome! I'm new to computer graphics and I would like to know what to do to just as awesome as you guys. suggestions on what to do, what to learn and where to begin etc. I'm just a hobbyist btw so formal training is too much. =)
