Title: Steam Punk Oriental City
Name: Raphael Lacoste
Country: Canada
Software: Photoshop

Hello,

This is one of my latest comissions, I had to work on a post oil crash oriental city. The subject was inspiring!
all photoshop work,, standard brushes and some photo manipulation.

I hope you like and have some feedback, I didn't get a lot of success lately on cg society so I hope this one will get through!

Stunning work! Awesome job. I will be really P.O'ed if you don't get any recognition for this. Everything about this painting is beautiful. Right down to the dust being kicked up by the elephant. Color, composition, mood is superb.

Very nice! It has a really nice painterly feel to it. I especially like the modest use of the bright spot colors in the foreground. Well done indeed.

This piece is full of mood and atmosphere and something downright honestly gritty in a way I haven't seen in a long time.

I know it's set on a different continent and all but this really makes me want to go back and read "When Gravity Fails" by George Alec Effinger for some reason. Maybe the traditional (at least quasi) garb and the run down-ish tech in the background.

Really great piece!

Haven't had success on CGSociety lately? You're being delusional. I'm not gonna say I worship you (in a way I do), but you're undoubtedly one of the best on CGTalk and everybody knows that.

As for the work. I don't think I'm in position to criticize you. Flawless as always.

Absolutely brilliant piece, it would be great to see some wip stages just to get a feel for how you integrate your photos into it without it looking too noisy or drawing the eye. If I'm trying to incorporate photographic elements I always feel like I need to overdetail the entire piece...this (and your other work) seems to avoid that completely.

Great work, 5 *s...or the new 'love it' equivalent :)

Great citiscape. I like the contrast between the city and the filthy foreground. Also that it has more color on the section, verus the light sky color impuded on the background. Love how the elephant turned out. The characters are good too. Nice work. It turned out great.

:buttrock:Great painting and I love the feel of it. I'm just not sure how this qualifys as steam punk?
I see the blimps with the weird stuff on the belly of them I'm just not seeing the STEAM powered mechanics. Maybe it's behind the elephant.
It's kind of like the band no doubt saying they were " ska ", It's just not really part of that genera, you know. I'm not knocking the piece itself just how it is categorized. But it truly is a great painting.

Salut Raphael,

This piece is amazing!

the building in the middle remind me the Burj Dubai but the junk in the foreground looks like mumbai in India! where is it..?
