I am an "animator on the making" and I am wondering if you would recommend this book.
The reviews say that even a MEL newbie can find this book useful, and you see: I am a MEL newbie :D

Should I get this one?

Also: do you have any other (animation-related) books I should get my hands on?

I'd recommend Complete Maya Programming, but it also includes API and that might not be what you want. I have MEL scripting for animators and it really is a good book, but I do prefer CMP although, thats just a matter of preference. There a book called MEL companion guide which is also pretty cool, but I'd take MEL scripting for Animators over that. So basically my order goes CMP>MSFA>MCG

As newbie I'm sure it will suit you just fine.

PS: There should be a thread around here somewhere, where this book is discussed and compared to others, maybe try a search for it.
