Hi,
no i'm sorry theres no repair mechanism to fix this. If you haven't got a backup the scene is lost.

Don't give up hope yet..It might just be corrupted because of a previous crash. If you haven't performed a scandisk , do that next time you start up..

If that doesn't fix it there is a good chance the file is lost.

you MIGHT be able to import the scenes objects into a new file. but I am not sure if this would work. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. It all depends on your situation.

Some plugins will fry your file forever. This does not seem to be the case though.

Do you have automatic backup enabled? If so there should be a file called [your_scene].bak in the project directory. Rename it [your_scene].c4d and you should be okay.

Although I have no solution for this, I think I know what caused it.

I have seen this happen on my PC when I: Quit out of c4d without saving yet, I get promted to save or not save, I choose save, Cinema "appears to closed", I then kill the power for a hard boot.

My theory is this: Although the C4D's GUI has closed the file is still being written in the background and, when I gave my comp the hard boot, Cinema didn't get a chance to finish writing the file.

I know this won't get your file back but it may help you in the future.

Further yet believe it or not but I have found Cinema to effect many programs even up to 5+ minutes after closing down and I think it has more to do with my memory and processor trying to cool off from intensive work. I have tested this many occatons and most instances my computer would freeze in the middle of playing a graphic intensive game after just closing C4D down minutes before. But this doesn't really have anything to do with saving so... Just something interesting.

Hi,
after the GUI is closed CINEMA is gone. What might have happened is that the file has not been written to disk but was still in the cash. Thats why it is important no to simply kill the power but to shut down the system via the OS.

Srek raises a very valid point. An application that is simply an application (meaning it has no services running) will "go away" as soon as the GUI is closed. Another good point is to "properly" shut down the OS so that cache is cleared and all services terminate properly.

I have been burned with file saving in the past (with other programs) for this very reason ... the hard-shutdown. After the files were lost all I could do is learn from it and not do it again :-)
:surprised
