View Full Version : pc laptop or macbook pro?
jananabanana 07-07-2009, 05:20 PM i'm in a dilemma if anyone would like to help me. i am currently in the market for a laptop but am unsure of what to purchase. i would really like to get a mac but all my programs run on a pc. is boot camp worth it or is it a hassle to run windows software? basically, i just need to know what other mac users think about boot camp and if it's worth it. does the laptop run slower on windows? any info or insight would really be appreciated :p

bootcamp is not emulation (well, BIOS emulation, but that doesn't matter) Windows will run as fast as it can on similar PC specs.
I say go for it, the new macBook Pros are nice, and fast (Fast RAM and Bus) and you get some great video capabilities in OS X.

One question:
Why would an artist who uses primarily Windows applications buy a computer that was not designed for *and NOT supported by the vendors* for running Windows applications ?
Don't get me wrong...I think Macbook Pro's are nice units. Very sleek, sexy and well-built.
I just can't see using a MAC for professional Windows apps.

Search a lot, go see all options from Dell and other makers (not only in the individual section but also in the small buisness section) and compare price with features. I personnaly feel the studio 15 series here in japan is the sweet spot. You get 2.4ghz, 4gb or RAM and a nice ATI HD 4850 (the HD4850 is 2x the 9400m) and a solid build for 799$.
Search also for discounts and coupons on google.
As for the macbooks, they are nice looking machines but her in Japan they are 300$ more than in the US.

If you take the point of view of expecting a fully supported product then yeah its daft. But if you see it as a self built machine that youre responsible for, then its not so bad
