Film Noir..hmmm.... Have you thought of doing something like... a "Casablanca" image?

World War 2... Morroco... love.. betrayal.. and Black and White?

Your second painting.. tells me you've thought of something like that. But I'm thinking if you look up Casablanca it might form faster.

Hope that helped! :)

Giancarlo - Thanks for the comment ! You are right, I´m thinking a bit in a retro style in the line of "Casablanca" and perhaps a bit more darker enviroments like "Maltese Falcon" or "The Big Sleep" :) And if I use a evil woman for the concept for sure I use Lauren Bacall like inspiration :D. "Love and betrayal" is a cool idea for the concept, thanks for pointing that! And thanks for the "Casablanca" link, very useful for sure! Cheers!!

Exploring another idea. More in the line of "Tech Noir" (cyberpunk style) and "Future -noir" films.

Yes.. maybe like.. a scene where the Humphrey Bogart character is being arrested by Nazis and the Ingrid Bergman/Leading lady type is pointing to him (sold him out) while weeping and looking away from him.. and the Bogart guy is shocked.. and sad.. Maybe holding his passport (there is NO entry in this contest depicting travelling papers!).

The Bogart type realizes with so many Nazi threats.. she had no choice. And his face is a mish-mash of sadness.. but maybe also understanding. Everybody's gestures would be in that expressive "before bullet holes were made" style of Movie acting.

Oh you can almost hear the sad music... see the cigarette smoke in the cabaret.... In black and white this kind of scene can be very strong.

Good luck! :D

Excellent stuff, Fer!
I like the way the convergence point goes way down in your last sketch and the curvy sides of the building lines! This is what great about you, putting attention to a great composition!
Somehow I wish you could also be considering a comic concept, among these you have already posted, the kind of innocent, harmless humor you tend to have in your works!
But no matter which sketch you choose, you aways render a great image in the end!
Have fun, amigo!

FERNANDO!!

Great to see you here my friend and i am glad to notice you are doing a great job in this scene. Your doing a very complicated perspective point of views that require at least 2-3 point perspective. But i believe this is just a rough sketch as i can tell it is for now. I noticed you are trying to break away from your traditional way of drawing and going into some realistic feeling to it. I realized that we only have a month left into this program and I hope you have discovered all your characters and concept ideas in place. I wish only to see more depth of what your illustration will be or composition. Great start and I know things are warming up. I will add to this post and try to help as much as i can take care for now and GL my friend!!

Yes!! They are back!! Lady Dalila and Egelvidio in a new adventure!! hahahaha.

The last sketch with the bridge in black-white is great concept with calssical film noir. I also liked the ambiance environment of the tech-noir sketch. It is very good but I think it needs a better defined action or some kind of the love-woman-agent feel :)

These are looking really nice, Ferx! I really like the one with the 2 guys rapelling between buildings, but the new two are nice too. These last two are both nice compositions. The only thing that bothers me is that the man with the gun has the drop on the woman in both shots. What if you heightened the sense of drama by - in either shot - moving her prize to the other hand while swapping it for the gun, which she could point at him. Then they're deadlocked and there's much more of a suspenseful moment - who will shoot first? who's the agent? who will win?

Anyhow, just an idea - good luck!

I'm going for the film noir concept :D
This are a pose and action studies for the composition concept on the bridge.

A) A tension situation, "You fire, I explode you"

B) Destroying the top secret item - "you are not going anywhere, traitor"

C) Fire in the hole - " You blow my chevy 67, I kill you" :D

Only 16 days left....

SteevieWoo
07-24-2009, 08:52 AM
Hey Fer , good to see new stuff!
Now from the three options: I think 'A' is a bit too static, not much going on until any of them makes his move.
'B' is very nice I and i like it, but the main action (the shattered cd) is a bit small inside the composition, still this concept is all mood so that could work really well.
'C' is great too, the thing with that one is that there's a lot going on in a split second, It's just a matter of placing your characters carefully, so you can tell the chain of events clearly. Maybe the guy closer to the ground and making a move not so matrix looking, more in the Max Payne stile. boy, I hope that means something...
AAAnyway I'd go with 'C' with the bald guy in 'B' pose. I think.

Cheers dude:buttrock:

Ferx
07-24-2009, 07:04 PM
Gabriel - Thanks my friend for that useful comment :D You are right, I´m thinking to go for C action ( more dramatic and dynamic) with the pose for the bald guy in B. I need a better read for the action in C, like you say, and think "Max Payne" is a totally cool reference, thanks for the suggestion :D Uhhuu... only 15 days left.... time for a tequila boost !! hahahaha :D Cheers buddy !!

Fire in the hole - " You blow my chevy 67, I kill you"

hehe, cool and sad at the same time, I like chevies, they are so comfortable and HUGE!
Glad you finally found your favorite concept and I'm looking forward to see the progress on this one, I haven't yet seen a tech Noir style done by you, should be really interesting!
How about that Idea, by the way, to post the final image like you did here, three consequent parts in one pic, like the comic books? Sure there is more dynamics and sense of silent story-telling in it! You really raised an interesting theme here!
Keep painting my friend!

nice update ferx. still need more correction. i like the explosion lighting, but i feel the explosions to small. i also like the camera angle, mostly on the building background, but it doesnt come right at the bridge edge. IMHO. and, add more cold blue. you still have 11 days. good luck then!

Hi again,
Very Nice update.
I still think the man in the front needs a cool face than a surprised one :)
Actually I like him more when his back is turned- very typical film noir feeling, where camera focuses on the beautiful woman when man is watching her as she comes towards. But with his face turned towards camera, I believe he needs a more cool, calm and confident look- he is being as the secret agent :)

In your bridge wips, I think 2nd one (with CD ) had a nice eye motion inside the frame. I agree that CD matter is too small inside frame but it has one virtue: both motions and arms of 2 men make kind of a trieangle which eye follows and girl is inside this triangle and our eye follows these lines through the picture and you control how our eye moves inside frame.
So I believe this last wip needs some virtual guidelines too inside composition to gathering all together and making it a stronger composition.
Cheers and Best Wishes

Excellent, you're in business now!
Should be really cool to see your take on this, as a tech noir style, as you put it earlier!
I'll just lean back and enjoy how you put layers of layers of color onto this!
Happy painting amigo!

Hey there Fer! damn! I lost the comment i was going to post here yesterday, I guess I forgot to push submit.
Well, basically it said that I'm digging the detailing, things are getting sharp. I was also saying that I think the folds on the bald guy's arm are a little off with the angle of the arm and make it look kinda short.

Oh and great explosion! I'm stealing some of this for mine:D
Keep it goin'...

Irawan
08-05-2009, 12:35 PM
hi fernando,to increase the amount of detail and still look really good it would be nice if you make the city just black silhoute with the light effect on the windows, and worl more in to the bridge.and for the guys with the green mantel it would be nice if you make the lower part more in to the corner to get the dynamic movement and the balance the composition.just opinion, cheers.heri

Whoah, it's all finished, and what a great result it is too! There is a kind of poetry in this image (and the title) which is difficult to define, but I love it. There is a great sense of the secret agent film genre about the image, combined with your beautiful illustrative style. Congratulations buddy and good luck

CGIPadawan

This image came out very unique and seems like it really tells part of a larger story.

The title is also apt: "The Hot Kiss of Lead".

It's like a new-age Film Noir.... the bent on it kind of reminds me of Shoot'Em Up and Sin City (but with color).

I felt she was two-timing or something. And you know what happens if you play with fire.

Very nice image. A bit story-bookish in terms of finish. But the emotions come through very well.

Good luck! :)
