View Full Version : How to achieve this kind of render?

does anyone know how to achieve this type of render? I think it is called "GI" or something like that

Ive tried searching the forums but none of the post have really been helpful.
It would be helpful if somone could tell me how.

I take it you mean the picture on the left, this is a technique called NPR - Non Photo Realistic and the only people who make a plug in that I know of are Reyes.
GI is Global Illumination where the renderer tracks every ray of light and calculates how much it bounces around the scene, it is also called Radiosity.

Cebas has an ink and toon shader called Final Toon
Also, max 5 has one built in that you should check out first

are you for real? he's talking about the picture on the right. the one on the left is not a render its a painting.
anyway in max 5 you need to use the advanced lighting renderer and the skylight.

navx0r, GI stands for "global illumination". Search for that and you'll find literally hundreds of hits. Hundred of thousands if you go to google. It's the most-often-used look you can give a render, on account of looking fairly nice with little or no setup time.
Quite useful for showing off geometry, which is what the right picture is doing.
And let's not start confusing the newcomers that GI is Radiosity, there's more to it than that. Search and learn is all I can suggest.
