when should i be freezing objects, and why or why not.
i only use this function to help me modelling a subd object, but i understand that frozen objects render faster. is there issue's if i was to freeze a character for instance that will be rigged and have morph maps.

As a general rule, I freeze objects that aren't going to be deformed.
Like fixed objects, modelled in subd, Like a car.

Don`t freeze objects when working on complex models in modeler. They`re slower than subdivs in viewport mode.

The only times are for a UV map trick I know and using Motion Designer.
That's all I can think of, pther then maybe exporting to another file format.

the only time I freeze a model is when I am exporting a proxy model for BodyPaint.
excuse my ignorance, but why would you freeze for motion designer?

There are numerous reasons to freeze, but here's what I use it for.
If I have a subd object that I want to have a prop on that is not sub-d, I will copy the subd mesh to a new layer and freeze it at the level I will render it. Then I'll select points from the frozen mesh to create splines from, this way my non-subd prop's profile will be the same as the sub-d mesh when rendered.
