Had this simple idea for a Formula 1 like hovercraft powered racing vehicle... Please, don't give me a pysics lesson on why htis thing wont work, it is just a for-show model.

I tried to mirror and weld the vertices the other day but ran into some smoothing problems afterwards... stray faces and stuff. I box modeled it, using extrude instead of using shift-drag on edges to make new polygols... have to go in and delete all unseen polys now.

How she look?

difficult to judge right now, how about posting a pic of the whole thing, and possibly a wire

I cannot post the whole car till I finish all the details (mirrors, windscreen, lights, etc) since I am modelling half of it and hten I will mirror it and weld. Mirroring it and welding the vertices is a waste of time until I have all the symmetrical details done..

I will post an updated pic and wire tonight.

Looks like you are on right path but i wonder why you say that mirorong/welding is waste of time ? What program you use ? I ask 'coz i mirror and weld half of car in 2 seconds. AFAIK most of programs can do that automaticaly so i wonder why you think it's so hard/loong process :).

It's hard to coment anything from half of model.

Well I am using 3D studio max r3.1 and all of my vertices are not in a stright line down the car, so I have to weld them individually so I don't accidentally weld more than 2 together. But i think I will perform a boolean on that plane line and then I will have a straight line. I will post wire and full car in a few miuntes....

Her is a mirrored but unwelded pic. Whenever I attach and weld the two halves together I get wierd smoothing side effects. It is like one side is meshsmoothed and one side isn't and the midway vertices are all fuxored. In the modifier stack there is nothing to do with any smoothing on the one side though..
