Hey, first of all before i explain whats wrong i got 3dsmax5 educational version from my uncle which i get free from since he used to work for Autodesk, and discreet i talked to for hours trying to get this to work.

---computer specs---
AMD Athlon 1.8ghz proccessor
130gigs HD
1GB of ram
Nvidia GeForce AGP FX 5600 256ram
-------------------

anyways, i dont think its my computer since it seems ok. Either i think its the licensing system or the CD is corrupt which they said it was cdilla/flexlm. I got it to work for 1 day and then it didnt work again. also in the past it used to make me register for an Auth code every other month which was really enoying. Then my friend gave me the cracked version which i strongly apposed to but said fine since i already bought the program. That too only lasted for a day, and i tryed reinstalling everything... the 3dsmax CD and the crack and then the Licensing system and stuff, and its still not working. Sorry if anyone thinks this is a waste of posting space but i just am getting way to frustrated reinstalling 5 times a day and not going outside for any sun :hmm: . The other thing is I also couldnt get 3dsmax5.1 and 3dsmax5.1 SP to work since i need the direct x 9 speed even if its a lil bit faster than the normal openGL or directx8.
Well if you can figure it out that would be cool, ill do mostly anything for getting max5 to work.

Hiya.

Sounds suspecious, but just in case you are on the up and up...

Don't use the crack you got. Good chance that's the problem. Reinstall. Test.

If that doesn't work; back up your important files, then kill your system and rebuild (format, reinstall OS, etc.). Now install MAX5. Make sure you arn't using SP3 if you are on Win2k. If you are using XP, well, I can't say (I don't use it). If you then get problems, talk to discreet. They might be able to help you then...if you only have your OS, some drivers for Mouse, vid card, etc. and MAX. No photoshop/painter, winamp3, openoffice.org, etc.

In any case, good luck!

Hey Paul Ming, I wasn't aware of an SP3 problem. Is it major? Anything I should worry about?

Read the thread at the top of the forum called "ATTENTION all 3dsmax users *updated info*"... actually, it's at the top of a lot (all?) of the forums.

The problem you ppl are refering to is actually to do with service pack 4 not 3. SP3 and below are fine.

Since you are using a crack for 3dsmax, i would assume it had something to do with the crack. EIther remove the crack or try another.

Its not a problem with 3dsmax or with your computer. Its a problem with the licensing software. Which for the better part, its very tricky to fix.

Here is what i would suggest. is uninstall max, and cdilla. The do a search on your harddrive for anything called cdilla (make sure you have show hidden files on) you will probably find a few files, and also a folder in the c drive, called cdilla. You can pretty much safely delete all these files.

Try again and see how it goes, also completely delete your old 3dsmax folder, make sure you keep all your scene and maps files tho. ya dont wanna loose those.

See how that goes

basically, from what i can see, they think that you have a virus which is causing all the problems.

Do you have norton anti virus??? because basically those instructions just tell you to update your virus definitions then scan your computer.
