Sulla 07-02-2009, 04:18 AM Hi all I thought I would join the party and start my own sketch book thread. Here are a couple of sketchs in acrylics to get things started. Let me know what you think.

Nice work on these! :) What's the process? Are you using any mediums?

Thanks Rebecca:) I am using Acrylic Glazing Liguid to get the paint to flow better and to slow the drying time. I really like oils better but I do not have good ventilation in my studio. And I do not really want to open all the windows when its 100 degrees out side haha.

Oh and I forgot to answer about process. Really its pretty strait forward. I just lay down the midtone. Then rough in the shapes and go as far as a can with an 8 filbert. Then I do a the finishing touches with a 4 filbert.

Sure I am just getting back into traditional painting. I have been doing all most all digital work for a while now. And I figured the easest way to start again was to do value only studies and smaller simpler subjects. Plus its less scary than starting a big painting:)

Here is a new value sketch. And also a quick color in photoshop just because I wanted to see what it would look like in color but didnt want to take the time to glaze it. :)

Hey, nice studies! I love the feel of traditional mediums, it's almost like you opened a window right in the canvas. How big are you making these?

Thanks Frotz:) They are smallish with the largest of those being about 12x12 maybe.
And here is a new one. Its 18x18 I think.
