View Full Version : My presious particles
Enstriel 07-01-2009, 09:55 AM What is the best, easiest and fastest(PhysX support) 3D application to simulate particle systems right now? I'm a web designer, and after hours I like to play with them in RF/3DS Max, but it's so frustrating to simulate even a mid-quality setting, even though I have a Q6600@3,14Ghz. I'm semi-advanced in C4D, but unfortunately C4D doesn't have great tools for simulation, and no PhysX. I use it mainly for modeling and static renders.
Currently Im playing in 3DS Max RayFire and FumeFX plugins, but overall I think that 3DS Max has a terrible user interface, and if there is a better choice, I would like to omit 3DS.

Because there isn't a particle board?

This is a 3dsmax sub-forum about the particle flow, a particle system from 3dsmax. So you have to stick with 3dsmax if you want to use it. Maybe you should try the C4D forum, it have thinking particle as a plugin.

I see that I won't get any help here. Never mind.

Enstriel,
Did you consider the option of using Box#2 with PFlow in 3ds Max? It has PhysX support, and quite fast.

Thanks,

First of all you can only pick two of the three you are asking about, then decide.

In Max you have - Particle Flow Tools Box#2 - RayFire - Thinking Particles
overall I think that 3DS Max has a terrible user interface,
You can fully customize your own, that will at least help with your interface disparity.
and if there is a better choice, I would like to omit 3DS.
The debate of a better choice, hmm, look at the triangle again. Houdini (you probably won't like the interface and the price tag), XSI+Ice (there again easiest to learn, that may be your hurdle) is your next best bet.

That is what I was going to say. Extremely fast, reliable, and fairly easy to learn as long as you have a little basic knowledge of how Particle Flow works.

They come here because the Max users are always the ones with the answers, and the best VFX advice. I mean come on, it is 3DS Max (and no, it isnt just for games).
