I was really inspired by this challenge, and I love the genre. This is my first approach to the main character of the image. Detective Ray Hammond, sounds cool I think. I was thinking for the image like a dark brooklyn alley, and this guy fights against some misterious cult, something like "Call of Cthulhu" game, type of ambience.

I have started with the high-poly sculpting in zbrush of the buildings. Each building has been exported separatelly, mapped, sculpted, painted, and braughted back to 3dsmax using digimation to be rendered in v-ray. I also added a full moon.

Here I?m palying a little bit with the lights but still can?t find the mood I?m looking for. The scene right now seems too heavy for my equipment. Each model is over 800.000 polys and less 1.200.000. I?ll try to render each part separatelly in different scenes, and make the composition in photoshop.

Nice lighting, I really like the way the specular highlights shape the scene. It's a very cool style. I must admit I find the different types of ground a bit confusing, I think that the road's round stones can't really be seen and I didn't really understand what they were at first glance. Also, I wonder if the piece of paper that the dead cultist is holding should be more of a mystery. Regardless, I really do like the style of it all. Can't wait to see more.

Thanks a lot mic. I was counting on that. Once I have all the elements involved Iīll start tone down the background, adding some fog perhaps. I was thinking on drawing a few cables between the buildings. Maybe a cat. jeje.

I love the idea and the composition! :applause::beer:

What i donīt like is the hand of the corps. It looks very flat and lacks the natural arc of the upper surface of a regular human hand. Also... since he is dead, his muscles should be absolutely relaxed. Put your own hand on a flat surface and relax it... youīll see how different that looks. It kinda folds. Thatīs because of the muscular imbalance most of us have in our hands. The muscles that are responsible for gripping are much more developed, than the ones responsible for "spreading" your fingers or "opening your hand". Also his whole arm lies in a very unnatural and unbelievable position. One canīt really tell, wether he is lying on his back or on his stomack. The fingernails indicate, that itīs his stomack. But you usually canīt rotate your shoulder externaly to such an extreme degree so that your upper arms lie almost parallel to your trunk and the lower arms in perfect 90°s flat on the floor. You brake your arms or dislocate your shoulders! And even that looks different from what youīve come up with! Just try it and youīll see what i mean. ;)

If I was you, I would work on the fold of the corpsīs mask some more. It doesnīt fold at all. It only has some Freddy Kruegerish wrinkles. Looks like a bad rubbermask for halloween. You did such an amazing job on the coat of the killer... it would be a real shame to leave the corps like that.

As far as lighting goes... I salute you! Perfect atmosphere! Iīm missing the focus however. The killer disappears in the dark... I would put the background a little bit out of focus and give the killer a brighter edge light... especially on his shoulders and left arm. The gun really disappears in the dark. Maybe you want to give it a tiny little shine?

I think, if you fix those problems and put in the garbage can, plus maybe something else on the left side of the picture (that wall looks way too empty and puts the whole thing a little out of balance), this will be one of the greatest entries of this competition!:deal:

With great respect:Pete

P.S.: I love the sight of laundry hanging on ropes in between buldings! I want to see more of that!!!:applause:

Here I added the last assets on the scene. From now on I?ll concentrate in polishing the composition and correcting a little bit the dead body.

Hello Diego,

Great scene!! Love the color!!

I just don't understand how the dead guy fell with that thash can between his legs ... Well ,I prefer the scene without the trash can anyway .. because, at least for me, the view of the ground give more depth to the composition ...

good luck

Thanks!. In my defense, I can say that the guy was sitting on the trash can before he dies and thatīs why he fell that way. LOL :)
