View Full Version : Alpha map on a plane creates Jagged edges on background object

I have an object in the shape of a Cross, then I have a plane where I created a material that has the Alpha Channel for Jesus on the Cross to be on top of the 3D Cross ojbject.

The problem comes when I place this plane in front of the 3D Cross, I get Jagged lines. But If I make the plan invisible to test if this is the cause of the jagged lines, the 3D Cross comes out smooth.

Any ideas?

You probably have the antialiasing set to "geometry" (or so), right? Because of the transparent plane in front of the Polygons of the cross, the renderer won't smooth the edges behind it - set the antialiasing to "best", and it should work.

Yes, you are right. So far the Antialiasing has been set to Geometry as worked great. Now that I added this new object and transparent plane, I have this problem on this object.

Is there any other way to solve this problem other than setting the antialiasing to "Best"? My scene is complex with lots of other objects and the rendering time goes up a lot. And this is the only object with the problem.....

I'd just try to make a "Jesus-shaped" plane to map the texture on - cut away that part of the plane that you are making transparent now.

Great idea. I will try it and post results.

I suppose you could add a compositing tag with forced antialiasing on the cross-object. That way you wouldn't have to render the entire thing with 'best'

Ok. I tried using the Composite Tag with the Force Antialiasing but still did not work.

In the render setting, I have the Use Object Properties checked.
