View Full Version : Vehicle: Mazda MX5
Phreakan3D 07-26-2003, 05:55 PM I have been working on this model for a few days, its my second attempt at creating a "real life" model in 3DS Max 5.1, I have in the past made silly little things but none with a specific technique.
Here we go then,

The renders are from different stages, just took one front and one rear from my directory :)

dont.
vehicle modelling can be quite a learning experience, and have a complete set of tricks and methods in their own right.
you got a wire view for your progress? it looks pretty good so far.
also could you post a non GI render? something without the soft shadows? GI can cover up a lot of mistakes ;)

no it's good!
everyone starts somewhere. you should see some of my early car attempts, lol.
keep it up, 1 thing i do advise people to do when showing test renders is render just a plain grey version, wth very simple lighting.
Keep at it,
Will

very good progress so far.
the only areas of concern you more than likely know yourself:
where the headlights mee the body
the front valance could use some extra polys to jelp witht he smoothing
and the seam up the center.
after that, its all about the textures, tires, and lighting!
well, those and the billion details on any vehicle!

Nice! Always loved the Miatas. Crazy Auto-X'n machines!!!
For your model the door/panel edges look too round. I had the same problem with my car but it was easily fixed. Basically u take the polys that make up the edge and extrude them a little. You will usually have to make a few modifications, but it will come out waaaay better than originally.
Post a wire of your car and I can photo chop it to better illustrate. As a special request can you post a wire of just your door (so I can photo chop it and illustrate what I am trying to say) please?
One last question, what technique are you using? Did you use splines? Did you start off with a box? Perhaps you started with a plane (the technique I used)? Lol ok so it was 3 last questions...
We should race sometime, my ricerocket vs your miata, check it out!

In that render you can see how the edges are simular to yours in that they are too round. I later fixed it but I have no recent renders :( I don't be afraid to race me, a stock miata has more preformance than any fibre glass bolt on my ricerocket has :P
