Hi,

it's the first time, that I post an image in this forum! It's also the first time, that I built a car and of course it's a dodge viper
(I think nearly 75% of all cars which were made with a 3d software are dodge vipers) ;)
To the image: I used 3dsmax 5 and rendered it with brazil (without GI). The rendertime was about 4 hours. The polycount of the total scene is 700000.
Hope you like it. All C&C are welcome!

Looks nice!
I think there should maybe be some smoke behind the car. It looks like the Viper is screaming around the corner (as it is a little a skew from the straight road) and also the lit brake pads look like they should be burning some rubber!
Nice work!

yeh the car isnt straight on the road but the road doesnt show any signs thats it's turning, could you curve the curb?

Hi,
thx for your replies...

@ starqueen: Originally I want, that he overtake someone, which is driving slower on his site. But you are right, it looks strange, because the road isn't turning.

@ Draco 84: Yes some smoke would be really cool! Do someone know, how I could render the smoke in a own layer with an alphamap (in 3dsmax)?

i guess you were "inspired" by my last scene ;)

check out those disc breaks.. cool. You actually took time to model out the background cars? Very nice.. if you make the light effect should be better. ( the trail of light that car leaves behind especially the brake lights when car moves) Since your background car and the viper is moving at some speed.. What machines specs do you guys usually use to model out such powerful image? Im currently on an assignment to model out a concept robot, wonder how long to render out on a normal p4 2.4, with 1g ram machines?? probably at 200000 poly count.

@ aYs: Yes, I saw your last scene, it's really awsome and it probably inspired me to make my scene like it is now.

@ unknown limit: Thx, but the color and the glow effect were done in photoshop.
I also "turned" all the other lights in photoshop on. :)

@ singleguy: I tried to find out, how I could make an effekt, like you can see at pictures with a long exposure time, but I don't know how I could do it. My little machine is only an amd xp 1500+ with 640 mb ram, therefore all changes at the current scene are very hard, because all is so slow, but it works ;)

@ all: sorry for my bad english

well I must say that I am still against the glowing discs - is the smoke on the tires coming because of a serious breaking?

The lighting doesn't bring the car out nicely (or the reflections) it should get brighter reflections on the top.

Also the motion blur bugs me big time. The tiny car has distinctive MB but the Viper doesn't neither does the environment. Is th Viper Still and the boring family kinder the only car moving?

Though I like the orange lighting in the background I would try to clear the color scheme abit. The Viper doesn't get "main role" now.

keep on going,
heikki

thx for your replies!

@ kerosene: i don't now, but i like the glowing discs. Hehe, everytime when I render the scene a new time, I make the reflections only a little bit higher, because I am afraid, that they could be to strong.
The camera is fixed at the dodge viper, thus the viper is sharp, because he doesn't move in the framework of the camera. The environment shows a lighter motion blur than the car, because it isn't as fast as the yellow car (based on the view of the viper and the camera).
But thx for your hints! I hope I get some more c&c... hm, looks like I am c&c addicted

the viper moves to slow and so does the camera (Motion blur)

The speed contrast between the orrange car and environment is much more than viper environment - also the still wheels of viper give the feeling of it standing.

If the car was driving 60 and you followed it with the cam the motion blur shoul be much more (especially in the far background) how did you do the blur?

The wheels don't show any motion blur, because the viper is breaking very hard (it should look like that), but it looks really queer, especially at the picture without the smoke. If I render the picture new, I will give the tires and the enviroment more MB.
The Motion Blur is the build in motion blur from 3dsmax. The picture wasn't rendered in several passes, because the rendertime would be to high... :hmm:
THX for your reply, kerosene!

The smoke needs a bit of attention. You can tell by looking at where the smoke meets the asphalt that you've used a series of sprites (facing particles or maybe a bunch of cloned planes) to simulate it, and it might be worth painting them out in photoshop or doing something in Max to stop it happening.

@ Manboy: I saw this problem with the smoke too, but first I didn't know, how I could get rid of this. I tried it now with the clone stamp from photoshop.
