Remember The Matrix ?
Looks like these guys here took it a few notches further :-)
First I thought this was all 3D.
But then again, the footage looks really photo-realistic.
Any comments on how this monster was made ?
Cheers, Bert.

Quite incredible. I would guess carefully planned movie shots with lots of effects and 3D elements in post prod. Can't really stop looking at it right now...

Ola,
This is a simple trick...
Dummies (puppets), objs with wires in the air, and some 3d (like the blasted glass).
And really good camera move.
Thanks
Tom

I remember watching this a few weeks ago, it's really cool, but as Tomas says, basically you get a bunch of people in a room and shout "Don't move!", then film it :)
It's fun trying to look for people blinking...

I hate clowns....
So do I... Curiously the ugly sadistic blood thirsty face we see in the movie is exactly what I have mind when I think of a clown. Shall I go see a shrink...?
Shooting the movie is probably the "easy" part of this production... The magic is is post.
I'm curious about addition of 2D and 3D elements, matchmoving and editing software. I really would like to see a making of...

I'm with you there Richard - I have a strange attraction/repulsion with clowns. Its a pyscho thing with the whole laughing outside serial killer inside...and of course some deep seated emotions from when you were a child
Next patient please

I love the part where you actually see the streetcop firing a 3D bullet from his rifle :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

The meticulus attention to detail is what really sells this - the bullets, the refracting glass, etc. I'd imagine they had a 3D version of the full set and a mocon camera, so tracking would have been more automated than hand-tracking in post. But who knows. Top notch all the way.
Years ago I did a stop motion sequence where a laptop spun around on all axises, then opened up as it came toward camera and the image on the screen cut to a new scene. The laptop had Premiere running on it, so the pre-filmed scene started on the laptop's screen then cut to the rest of it when the camera got full-frame. It was pretty neat, and really tricky to keep all the mess straight with having to frame advance Premiere and charge the laptop every 1/2 hour within its rigging that was so complicated a Dominatrix would even cringe.
Shooting it was pure hell. We had rigs, wires, and tape everywhere. And every time the animators would move the thing, we would have to wait literally five minutes for it to stop moving before we could shoot the frame (on top of the several minutes it would take just to set up each new frame!).
Stop-motion guys are in a league all by themselves when it comes to patience. And just to add one last headache, they shot the backlit frame for the matte with a much different f-stop. So my matte and my fill had vastly different DOF's.
Still fun in hindsight - working with physical stuff instead of sitting at a workstation all day.

Thanks Tomas. I saw this a month or two ago but didn't know how they did it. The breakdowns are going but the continuous motion had me fooled.

Thanks for the links, Rick.
I have been looking to find a "making of" but couldn't find any.
