Sure does has since version 1 i believeYou are probably thinking of multi-threading, although I don't believe you are correct. With multi-threading, an app would be able to let you keep working while rendering, which Maya does not.
Hyper-threading is a pretty new concept for Intel processors, and of course requires apps to be multi-threaded to be of much use.

umm... you can keep working while rendering. its just that you won't be able to see whats going on until the end.
i have a P4 3.06GHz and HT works just fine. Remember, though, you need XP for HT to work.

chances are you're not gonna be running Maya 5 on a workstation running a server operating system. I'm willing to bet the vast majority (maybe even 99%) of windows Maya users are on either WinXP or Win2K.

Win2k is a Server OS and its own client. 'AS' is for large companies and faster servers

I wasn't aware Windows 2000 Professional was a server OS... i always thought Windows 2000 Server was a server OS.

Would Maya run better using win2003 then?

There is no Windows 2003. There is a Windows Server 2003, and no, Maya wouldn't run better on that. It's a server OS, optimized for running server-type services. Maya is meant to be run on a workstation OS (NT, 2000 Pro, and XP Pro).
Either way, a program needs to be efficiently multi-threaded to take advantage of either SMP or Hyper Threading, and AFAIK, Maya is not.umm... you can keep working while rendering. its just that you won't be able to see whats going on until the end.I'm not sure what you mean here. If I "render current frame" the rest of the program locks up until it finishes. If you are refering to a batch render, that's a separate program (and therefore separate thread[s]), so of course it will share the processor time with Maya.
