The colors look good, not too "sweet" at all. My only problem is that the background doesn't match the color sheme. This makes the character look like a cardboard cutout

Hey good picture, the legs seem a little tappered towards the top, maybe they should be a little thicker.
Anyway I was bored and did a little sketch over your, hope you don't mind :)

I’m great fan of European comic book style ( Bilal, Arno, Moebius, Hermann, Gimenez, Ortiz…) and that’s the way (sometimes) in most of these books how they depict all sorts of boots, And Me So Like It, that I do the same (even if it looks silly sometimes) .
