Hi there!

This is my first post and i welcome comments & critiques on how i can further improve my work. This was my first attempt at integrating a 3d object into a scene. It was a intergration excerise that i did for my 3d class in uni. The apple was modelled, textured & lighted in Maya 4.5. The background pic was a still i took with a digital camera which i then lined it up in Maya to match the apple.

I was quite happy with the texture of the apple although the texture wasn't mine (i got it from the web). I improved the texture in Photoshop, added scrapes, bumps, colours etc and then played around with lights & shadows to make the scene more 'beliveable'.

from such res, it looks ok to me.. all the details have been taken away. Give in a bigger pic would be better.

Yep i agree with you guys, the image is way too small to critique.

As i do not have a separate web hosting site, therefore i had to attached the image. This may be a silly question but how can i use a high res image without busting the allowed file size of only 20 000 bytes??

I would appreciate if anyone of you could let me know. Thanks.

Julian

At this res the image looks nice. You really need to submit a higher res version.

i looks good at this size. The only thing that bothers me is the "compatibality" between the apple and the background. It doesnt really blend in together. There's nothing wrong with the choice, just the focusing effect, makes the apple doent belongs there. Making it looking like a cut and paste effect. Hope u know what im trying to tell, as im not very good at putting things in words.

oh ok with that res, it's much more like i though... IMO it looks like painted over the photo. Nice try anyway ;) Maybe you could try a finer DoF, the grain and the green stem fake the comp :/

The apple itself looks awesome. The composition/lighting needs work. The soft black border is still too dark. The apple highlight is in the wrong place. Your strongest light source is coming from 11:30 direction (note the shadow of the chairs). Your shadow placement is in the wrong place. The stem had no highlight. Your apple has no reflctive bound light.... I hope this helps. Sorry for being to foward.

keep it up!
It's time for my apple.

well thanks for your comments fellas.

i do agree with 'nanabaky' & 'singleguy' that the apple being grainy - does make it look as if it was painted over the background. the whole pic doesnt look quite right, the apple doesnt blend with the environment. maybe blurring the texure of the apple might help...

Definitely needs more work on the light, i might try a finer DoF though. Also the shadows casted on the table, does anyone think it looks weird? Bcos i was going for - a little of the apple's colour being reflected onto the table.
