I've been working on this for the past 2 weeks and have put over 100 hours into modelling it.

It's for a class project, in which we have to model a vehicle.

The modelling is pretty much finished. While doing some renders I noticed a few little things missing. I'll probably start texturing it sometime tonight.

Anyway, any crits and comments would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for not using the proper format for the title. I forgot about the rules here.

Holy mackeral...I wish I were that good...

what class is this for? I am going to be doing modeling in college...and I am starting now but I suck...

extremly nice work!

i would kil people to have the same skills (and especially the IDEAS!) as you :D

all i gotta say is have fun texturing all those little objects!

great job so far. i thought you said you were gonna add some skulls or "road warrior" stuff...

I love it, but for a post apocalyptic car it looks like its in very good shape. You need to mess it up, add some broken bits, maybe bend one of the bumpers at the end. Make it look as if its been through a hard time.

broken parts?? why, maybe its a NEW post apocalyptic car :P

I love the model though, maybe it should stand somewhat higher on its wheels so can manouver better over rubble and stuff. And more thing, it is symmetric, why don't u change the model somewhat to make it a-symmetric, especially the engine, to make it more realistic??

Hope u have it textured soon, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the comments so far guys.

Krisc: It's for my 3d modelling class at Seneca.

juntao: Texturing this thing sucks ;) I'd love to add all sorts of little road warrior type details, but I might not have the time. The texturing is going really slowly, and as you know, we're runnin out of time.

Zero_Gunner: Again, I'd really like to break this up a bit, but I might not have time. The project is due Tuesday. I'm sure I'll get back to this after the course is over, and rework some of it.

Sandiman: The engine is a little assymetric, but not a whole lot. If I get around to adding all the little details I want to, it'll definately break up the symmetry.

Here's a bit of a start I've got on the texturing. It's rather slow going, and I'm not too happy with it. :|

Am I on the right track with the textures? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

i would like to see a wire, before commenting on the modeling. however tech wise, the front suspension would rip the roll bar off if it hit something hard, roll bars are designed for downwards force, not upwards.

shouldnt the front bumper cover the entire front? otherwise the wheels will just get ripped to shreads by large chunks of debris (post nuke)

tool box doesnt look like it is secured down, would jump out as soon as it hit a bump. same with the fuel tank behind it.

engine block is in the way of the steering collum, so bad design, the more moving parts the worse.

so, nothing that cant be fixed with a small ammount of work. great design however, i love funky buggies like this. ohh i study enginering (not english) which is why the harshish crits.

hope you read all of this!

Thanks for the comments Rei. Here's a wireframe:

You found the one big flaw in my design. The suspension. Believe it or not, I couldn't find any god reference pics of suspension at all. I guess the bumper would be more useful if it went all the way across the front. That's easy enough to fix.

Good point about the stuff attached to the side. I'll add some latches and stuff to secure them in place.

I know squat about engines so I was finding it pretty difficult to create a believable engine with very little reference.

Glad to help, that wire is heavy! good machine to do that reasonably quickly.

i see quite a few N-gons, notibly around the meshything at the back on the side of the roll bars, could be a problem, might wana triangulate it. other than that it looks fine.

about that engine at the back, a little more looking and it has no drive train at all, it cant power anything! if this is going to cause to much trouble, just ignore it, 'hey its the future, anything can happen' i dont mind.

good luck with the project.

How would n-gons cause a problem? I could understand it, if it's an object that will be bending or twisting or something, but for a static object, why would it make a difference?

Yeah, the engine at the back is pretty much for show at the moment ;) I ran out of time and didn't get a chance to model in everything.

This is the version that I ended up handing in for the project:

I was really short on time and didn't have a chance to model in all the little details that I wanted to. I also had to rush texturing parts like the engine, and underside of the car, so that's why they only have the same texture on everything.

Anyway, I'd really like to know what you think of the texturing.

The final polycount was somewhere around 436,000

I love it! That's a freaking awesome vehicle. Straight out of the Road-Warrior.

It works in 3D but that turbine engine on the back is getting to me. If it were going to be used in a game, or a movie, or something I'd pull the rear motor back about a foot (maybe a little less. You may not have to pull it back at all), or so, and being that it's a one seater you could use a dual ram air intake on either side of the drivers position mounted, or welded to the roll-bar. That thing will need serious air induction from somewhere.

Still wicked cool though!

The first thing that comes into my mind is: Goddamn! It's great!
The only thing I don't really like is the texture on the roll cage (or how do you call it?), but I think that is a personal opinion.

hey hey, looks ok!

only worring about N-Gons if you were going to put that into a game, but with a poly cout that high! anyway, looks cool enough to be post apopolyptic, so its a sucess anyway! the front roll bars have the same texture across them, prehaps rotate it a bit if you can. nice geep anyway.:applause:

love that sh*t great amount of detail is always a fun to watch.

Maybe on crit. the driver seat doesn't fit in my eyes. Looks to clean. to much like modeled.
