I'm not making it this year, but I've gotta say, the Softimage party was epic last year. All except for the $22 I had to pay for a double jack and coke.

Haven't heard of any so far. Worried that most of the usual suspects might not even show! Surely there must be a way to get our slant through the generous actions of our vendors!

Yeah it seems there's a lot of cost cutting this year. The only one for sure is the SIGGRAPH reception on Thursday. They haven't even annouced a Chapters party (last time at NO was at Jimmy Buffet's Margartiville).

As far as I remember Blur only does parties when SIGGRAPH is in LA (maybe with the exception of one year).

And now that you mention it I haven't seen the usual request for the RenderMan Stupid Tricks, so maybe there won't be a Pixar UG this year.

If there's going to be parties this year, they're cutting it pretty close.

wooops, correction next year is Los Angeles (July 26-30) and 2011 will be Vancouver. SIGGRAPH has already approved a motion to hold the conference 5 times in LA during the next 15 years.

There is finally a user group event I have found. V-Ray just posted up an announcement on this forum and I thought I would spread the word!

The event will take place on Aug 6th, 2009, 5:00pm-8:00pm at the New Orleans Marriott Hotel at the Convention Center. To reserve your seat at the V-Ray User Event, register at: http://chaosgroup.com/en/2/sig2009.html

I just registered and it took me about 1 minute. Hopefully there's an after party. ;)

If you like sake while watching psychedelic videos, come on in. No need to signup. I attended during San Diego before the CGTalk meeting, so I was aready sorta buzzed.

sweet! I went a couple of years ago with some friends and it was a blast. This year I can just stumble up the elevators to my room. extra sweet. :)

So it seems it will be very quite on the large scale this year, but that means better opportunities to mingle and network at bars and whatnot on a more personal level :-)

According to Ken Pimentel's Area blog - http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/ken/siggraph_musings - there will NOT be an Autodesk party this year. I have also heard that there will be no SideFX party. So it seems it will be very quite on the large scale this year, but that means better opportunities to mingle and network at bars and whatnot on a more personal level :-)

Yeah, it's been known for some time that Autodesk would not have a party. Their SIGGRAPH section kinda hinted at that. SideFX at least announced it officially some time ago, a bit more gracefully.

There is some consolation. Duncan Brismead will give a presentation (I believe an Exhibitor Tech Talk) at SIGGRAPH.

No Newtek booth this year, unless it's a very late addition (usually when you pick up your materials they give you a list of exhibitors that rented space at the last min. so they don't make the official buyers guide).

NewTek is skipping this time, they are gonna held a special event for the Core launch at the end of the year.

Looks like Lucas Film is doing their usual get together. Unfortunately, it's invite only. On this web page they do say "If you plan on attending the 2009 SIGGRAPH Conference in New Orleans please let us know by applying to this posting."

But, I believe this means applying for a position at Lucas Film. Good luck to all who apply and get invited!
