Does C4D support normal mapping so we can use stuff like this:

I believe mdme_sadie was working on a plugin to bring normal mapping into C4D.

not working on.

unfortuatenly, i've not had time to do the docs or anything, the plugin was completed a literal age ago (we're talking months and months, in fact just before the one for lightwave came out).

i promise i'll release it soon, but i may have to just without any docs and let you try to work it out for yourself because i'm busy on other projects again.

What plugin's are you working on mate?

ihave a fair few plugins unreleased

normal mapper - shader to generate and interpret normal maps, as well as ati generated displacement maps.

matrix - same as photoshop matrix but as a shader (unclamped to good with hdri)

tinge - unclamped color control shader, control color points, hsb and clamp the color range (if you wish) designed for working with hdri, but good with whatever.

deep pass - distance falloff, control over saturation, contrast, brightness, and color over depth. unclamped again (useful for glowing effects). control for saturation also set by rgb sliders for falloff of individual channels (like make red falloff before g & b for underwater scenes). also has groundfog option.

distend - thickens any surface, but as a generator, so if you animate teh surface it will remain at a constant thickness... good for cloth etc.

constrainer - tag that gives many constraint options on an object, with blending/weighting.

ao - ambient occlusion shader

mesh surgery - collection of advanced modelling and selection tools including scalpel, katana, superflange...(a lot of stuff you wont have seen in any other app).

there might be some others i've forgotten about, most of this is complete (just mesh surgery and ao incomplete right now) just lacking a manual and a portal to sell through.

I just came across this tutorial on Ken Brilliant's site - although he doesn't use C4D - he uses several apps to complete this demon head including Normal mapping - very cool!

I am very excited to hear that you are working on an Ambient Occlusion shader!!! Can you give us any details of its usage and when it will be released?

Also see these amazing examples by Weta - using ZBrush, Normal Mapping....

well cinema already has an ambient occlusion shader.... it's called dirtynuts (all you gotta do is up the number of samples to get it smooth).

i'm just playing around at the moment with some code, trying to see if i can make something faster/more controllable, but there's no guarantees.

Wow, so cool! Everything seems so useful!

I suppose I am thinking along the lines of what Renderman can output, as far as ambient occlusion....and presuming your plugin will do something similar...ie a good way to simulate a GI look without the render overhead. I have yet to try dirtynuts, so will have to check it out asap!

yea the problem with dirtynuts is that the speed overhead can often equal or be slower then using radiosity in the first place for good results. I wasn't aware you were working on this one too sadie, I"ll just say normal mapper and scalpel will likely be involved in all my future models using C4d and clay :) Constrainer sure helps out with hard IK (sorry sadie still haven't finished that rig for you will see if I have time before I head to sig otherwise won't have a chance til august)

oooh forgot...some of that stuff youre working on mdme_sadie sounds really useful.....you planning a bundle or separate stuff...

what about paypal...is that costly to setup?

Halogen

paypal is free to setup but it costs like a bit of money to get the earned money in your hands. I was thinking something like turbosquid, im sure they sell plugins and such but then again they take 50% of the profit. I honestly dont know a good marketing webpage...

flingster

i'm sorry but 50% should be deemed extortion!!! sounds like radiosity fees are high.........

wow :)

great news sadie!
a bundle including all of your new plugins would
probably be a good idea, since I am sure that most
of us are going to want them all.

Regarding a sales portal... surely Maxon would be
interested in hosting such a vital set of utilities?
In fact, Maxon should buy them from you and integrate
them into the core package ;)

I can hardly wait.
