CAN you use after effect,
what you do is attack a emitter to the end of object you want to emit gas, use clouds, don't emit a high particle rate or a large practical small work better, the use a gray scale colour, render as a seq{sgi, jpg, what ever}. once you've done that bring into after effects laydown your plate of animation. then over top of your particle plate, then under EFfECTS hit on DISPLACEMENT MAP select your particle plate as your DISPLACEMENT MAP and under USE FOR HORIZONTAL DISPLACEMENT use LUMINANCE but sometime just play with it . and you should see were ever your particle map is it should be like gas. very easy.
THIS SHOULD WORK WITH ALL POST PACKAGES.
