Hello all,
I am attempting to collapse a building for work, well a section of a building anyway, using Maya built in dynamics. The corner of the structure will collapse due to fire damage. I essentially set up the scene as a wrecking ball demolition, in that i am putting a large steel beam on a hinge constraint and having a ball swing and hit it on a nail constraing, in the end having the beam fall over into a brick wall that is cut up into individual bricks.. The initial set up works fine as far as the beam falling properly is concerned. The scene also works fine with maybe 25 bricks as active bodies. But i need hundreds of bricks to be active.
Now, its not a matter of sitting and waiting for simulation to bake to keyframes, as this can take some time. The problem is...if i select say, 200 bricks and make all active, all of the connections, constraints and gravity fields in the scene break completely. and I am left with a broken static scene.
I have read in other forums of people using thousands of bricks in maya dynamics and aroudn 20,000 they reach problems, I am simply having issues with only 200 bricks. They are not dense brick...just a simply poly cube, so I dont believe triangle count is the issue.
My comp is a a dual graphics Nvidia 285 gtx with SLI bridge, 1gb ram on each card...plus 4 GB system ram and a quad core processor at 2.9ghz each core. so I dont see the computer power and speed as the problem either.
any suggestions or commenst to help point me in the right direction would be much appreciated!.
I have tried a few other dynamic plus in for maya also, but they are not to refined and are missing many constraints and other options. anyone knmow of a good one, that could help also!
thanks...I look forward to hearing possble answers
