Hey Everyone,

I'm currently teaching a 9 week online course here at CGTalk entitled, Modern Game Character Creation. Anyhow, the assignment for the class is to have the students re-envision a retro video game character using today's tools and techniques.

While making the videos and course material, I'm working on my own re-envisioned retro character to go along..

Here's a shot at a stage right before creating the 'in game' geo for map bakes...

Sorry, BIG image...

That is looking pretty bad ass to be honest :)
Very nice idea for a coruse as well.

Will this course exist of everything covering the modelling to texturing phase?

Thanks, man!

The course covers everything, from A to Z. Concepting your character, creating, and presenting.

The current course is on Week 5 right now, and the students are detailing their character meshes.

Ah excellent.
I really hope to participate in one of these courses sometime.
Unfortunately if you already work in the industry you find yourself short on time:(
Good luck on the course man!

Thanks guys,

Had some time to pump out some bakes (AO, disp, cavity, norm)... just playing around with different settings. The bakes turned out well.. messing with the eye shader too.

In my opinion, if you're doing a homage of some sort you should stick with the original character or amplifying his / her characteristics. Is there are reason why you went the absolute other side of the spectrum of who Mega Man actually is (by my own definition of course)?

Technically it's a very nice model.

Solid, solid work. Love the mix of organic and hard edge - both done really well.

+1 for more than a bust ;)
