View Full Version : Maya Mirror Skin Weight Problem
Krisonrik 06-24-2009, 09:00 AM I've been trying to paint the skin waight on one side then mirror it on a symmetrical model.
But after I mirror it, one of the collar bone gets the skin weight of both sides and the other side is completely blank. I'm not sure whether I'm the only one who's had this problem before. It's very weird. The model is at origin. x 0 y 0 z 0. I mirrored it through yz so it is supposed to copy +x to the -x. Thanks in adavance. And here is a screen shot of the problem.

Did you tried to change some of the option in the box, like closed point on surface and the influence association? Try default value for these maybe.
Or, could it be because the collar joints are name the same??? tried using left/right label for the joints...

Ok, mystery solved. I can't believe I'm this noob. Well apparently I created the collar bones with at x 0 position... so it's sharing same position as one of the spinal cord bones. Thanks for all the help. I was a dumbass.

You don't need to move the joints if they are at the same position or very close to each other. Especially collar bone (clavicle) creates this problem. What you should do is select these joints and in attribute editor look for label. Assign left and right side to respective joints and the same label name. Then when you are doing mirror, just select label as your only method or as a second method.
