Hello
Maya 2009

I'm trying to Mirror skin weights + to - YZ
One joint does not want to accept this???
What can cause this. local rotation axis are lined, weights are normalized, body is symmetric

i'm a bit lost. any suggestions?

cheers,

Is that joint added as an influence object?

I have HUGE problems with that, those weights cant be mirrored at all it seems(anyone know?)

My workaround in these cases is to use Michael Comets tools for saving skin weights, then deleting the skincluster and redoing the bind again with all the influence-joints included. Then it will mirror .... totally weird

Well, maybe that wasn´t your case but anyway .. :)

sometimes I`m having this problem when the joint is sitting exactly on the mirror plane. Is that your case ?

no my joints are offset on the (-) X (meaning they are NOT on the mirror plane)

it seems like some verts get it (weights transferred)
some dont.
this is BAD! :(

i've also tried painting the (-) side, and mirroring to (+) on YZ and again...all joints worked except the eyes.
(same issue but revearsed)

I´ve found old threads with people talking about create there own mirror-weights scripts, does anyone know more about that? Are there any out there for free ?

kay found the issue, rather the answer

now i could swear i tried this last night but it didn't work but a colleague of mine just set the Mirror option "Influence Association 1: () from Closets (default) to One to one

that solved the problem..
arrr, sometimes little things like this will get you depressed but we just have to remember that i'm an idiot sometimes LOL

=) thanks for your help guys =)

One to one mirror method works well. But what works almost perfect is labeling your joints and use label mirror method. Go through each joint and in attribute editor look for label field. Specify left, right or center for each joint, the label name itself doesnt matter much you can specify anything you want but it has to be consistent for mirror joints.
