View Full Version : Maya 5 Is Killing Me
donvlatko 07-25-2003, 09:23 AM MAYA 5 IS KILLING ME
I have a problem with IK handle. I make a simple leg than I put the ikSCsolver from hip to ankle and my leg flip, when I use ikRPsolver everything is ok. The things are more confusing when every for example 20 times of trying it work, but when I then put ikSCsolver from ankle to ball it flip again.
Does any one have this problem and can someone tell me why is this happening???
thanks
Dule

This question had been answered in previous thread, turn off Enable IKFK control under skeleton menu before you do ikSCsolver.

Wait... Is this really the same issue?
What I understand is that donvlatko is trying to use a SC solver with a leg setup up but when he does, the joints flip poles back and forth. What you are suggesting is that this is an IK/FK thing? Am I misreading this? Because if I'm not, then I really don't think this is the case.
First of all, Make sure you have a bend in your joint. Another thing at that you make sure that you have the joints oriented toward each other in a hierarchical fashion. This can easily get messed up because Maya makes you think everything is fine after you have moved all the joints by hand. But, in fact, they are not.
Joint orientation is one of the most important things to character setup that gets over looked. And the "Re-Orient joints" button doesn't always work the way you want it to.
The only way I know of to fix this is to go to the channel editor and add the "Orient" (X,Y and Z) properties to your joints, you can then rotate them into position without having to worry about knocking them out of whack.
Hope this helps... I may just be adding to the problem.;)

I think this is the same problems. It has been around on at least 4 forums and 2 channel in MIRC. Different behaviour when using SC and RPsolver.
Other case is actually the user didn't set the preferred angle for his skeleton.

It want flip when I turn off my solver(ikSChandle options)but later I have to go back and turn it on in attribute editor. I don't understand why did they make this, it's very stupid our it's some kind of bug in MAYA 5.
First photo is what is look like when it flip.
Second when I trun my solver off it work
The last one is what happened if I don't turn on solver.
This is stupid you must admit guys?
