Hi all.... Hope someone can help me out

I've just enveloped my human body shaped character. Weight painted etc the body so it all moves correctly when the left hand side of the body is moved. Now thats done I'm going to mirror the info to the other side.... but

I go "Create Symmetry Mapping template" and when I go Validate, all of the assignments are red..

So the info can't be mirrored across to the other side of the body..

What am I doing wrong, as this is becoming really annoying..

Thanks....

Use a the UV mirror 2 v3 add-on that you'll find on Net View > XSI Net > Tools > UV Space|Texture Coordinates. Works like a charm, though a bit long to execute on dense meshes.

Thanks for the reply... but I'm not trying to texture the model,

but trying to get the envelope - weight painted info from the left hand side of the model to the right side,

hence, Create Symmetry Mapping template, then mirror weights as to save time in painting the weighting info on the right side, but this isn't working, and so am after possible solutions, as it states in the book that this is the way to do it, but doesn't give a soultion to this problem...

Hope you can help me out on this one.... cheers anyway..

I'm really sorry!

I meant the envelope_mirror_copy in XSI Net > Tools > Property Maps|Weight Maps.

Thanks Atyss,

But alas, it still didn't work...strange but true, so I've hand painted the whole mesh...

Atleast it works now.

Thanks for the info..

cheers:thumbsup:

I've had similar problems but I went through each rule and manually set the mirrored skeleton references and fixed the problems. Slow and tedious but it worked for me.

Its worth a try.

is it the mapping template that comes up red? I assume so, this probably means that you have some odd naming, or asymetrical deformers.

You can manualy correct the errors if XSI's efforts do not come through.

How are your deformers named?

Is it something that has left and right defined by an L and R in the name?

Are you mirroring across the appropriate planes?

I've had lots of joy with the mirror tools. The only persistent problem is that there is often some minute numerical spillage from side to side. As in you can have perfect weights, clean out all the lower values, but on mirroring you'll end up with sub 0.01 values from one side to the other where you did not have them before. The values are so small as to not matter, but in the interest of being neat it takes 5 minutes to clean up.

Good luck.
