Entering the challenge.
Hi all! Here's my first sketches for the competition, which were done actually quite some time ago.
I wanted to start with an action packed scene where a woman in a evening dress carrying some spy gear would be running towards the viewer, with an explosion in the background.
I did a few quick sketches and tried a more tighter framing for the image but it looked early on, that this way the image would have too many things going on to make it a captivating scene.
It seemed to me that this was more like a storyboard frame than a
potential stand alone painting.
So, back to the drawing board...

I scribbled this sketch idly after some time had passed from the initial versions I made for the competition.
I remember taking a second look after finishing this and thinking "yeah, I think I can make this work".

Next step was to set up the main character and start to build the image more.
Obviuosly the first things to change was the character and the perspective of the image. Since the running character was gone, I wanted to compensate that with a more dramatic perspective.
Eventually, I was liking this new version better than the original and started to get good momentum as the pieces started to fall in place more.

A good friend of mine always critizes me for the dark values I have on the images I paint. So this time I wanted to make sure I'd get right.
So, I started with blocking out the basic elements of the background and choosing the values in grayscale (a trick I've learned from CGtalk :-)).
This was also the moment that I started to feel that I should push this painting a bit towards a style of a comicbook cover image.

This is a step where I felt confident enough to add colour to the background and started to think more about the details on the buildings.
The momentum was getting really good at this point despite feeling I lost some originality.

Here's where I'm at after yesterday evening. I've been a naughty boy and spent way too much time for the details on the buildings.
I is tired and spending the whole weekend at a rock festival. Good to take a few days off from the painting.
More words tomorrow, happy paintings!

Not much left now. I'm pretty happy with the way the image is coming along. One more evening and it should be done.
Awesome contest again, so many brilliant paintings already done.

The white Swan.
She was the most known and the most elusive of the saboteurs that supposedly started the downfall of the omnipresent Corporate presence that dominated everyday life for so long.
The Swan was known for her extreme acts of force against the Corporations and these acts also caused a huge public uproar both for and against her, making her famous.
It has been debated whether or not her actions may have triggered the massive landslide of events that lead to the destruction of the stranglehold the Corporates had. The Swan's radical actions undeniably set an example that things can be changed. But as she herself stated "Sadly, with violence.".
With gathering momentum, the bundle of lies and exploitation, corporate greed and Orwellian control were brought to a sudden end. It was a rough road full of suffering and hard choices, but in the end the people won. The ordinary people needed and deserved hope for an alternative, and she gave it to them.
But she did so with a price tag - or an ultimatum - depending on your point of view. Her last words to the public before disappearing were:
"You hold the reins now, what will you do with it?"
