First update, and let me start out by saying sorry to the mods for filing a request as to why I was unable to post in this challenge, turns out the mistake was all mine, so sorry bout that ;)

But nonetheless I got a few ideas and, going for the classic, Agent, girl, villain line-up, setting it up like very "poster" like.

Pictures to follow soon.

So starting to get the body right where I want it, think I might add a bit more weight to the waist though.

I totally agree with you, and will do my best to make him live up to your expectations.

On another note, here is the hair, figured the best way to make it was to extract part of his head, and extrude from that.

hey frederik!

great progress here. i like the classic poster idea you got.
i got a few crits/suggestions for you. i know it's still very much wip, so you might have thought of some of these already.

first of all, i'd say you got way too many faces on the center forehead, to make that form.
maybe try playing a bit with the "hardness" of the chin, too. think he could look cool, with a sharp upper chin line.
about his body proportions. i surely see where you are going but, i think you could push the forms more. right now, he looks more like a young brat, trying out his fathers cloth than a buff secret agent.
maybe try lengthen the abdomen. area?

lastly the knees. i think they are too pronaunced right now. it looks like he got golf balls underneath the pants. try make the "bulp" more subtle. maybe just do a little pinched knee, from a center sewing. you know where a sewing would be after ironed.

anywho.. just thoughts.
keep up the good work.

Thanks glad to hear you like him ;)

@rasmusW
First of all, thanks man that was just what I was looking for, awesome critique ;)
Yep, way to many faces, but I thought, since it is mostly hidden, I didn't feel like spending to much time trying to reduce the number. So I think I might just leave it as it is.

I'll take a look at the hardness of the upper chin, for the next update, think your are on to something there ;)

And I can't thank you enough for mentioning the body proportions, I worked on it and it looks way better now.

And I've been working on the knees a bit, but really I spend way to much time making a hand, just to find out it looked like shit, so I had to make a new one xD.

hey frederik!

very nice progress here. i think, the proportion changes you did, really helped to get more hero into him.
now that you got these very iconic characters, i almost think you should go "full-pixar", design wise and make the villians "shapes" more or less exact opposites of your hero.
so maybe bring in a bit more of what you had in sketch 3 or 4. though i do like this design too.
are you planning on going full bender or do you render/composite in another app?

anywho... keep up the great work.

Stormf

Thanks Rasmus, once again a very helpful post, I get your point 100%, it was also noted to me that I should be carefull about making him to much like my agent, shapewise.

So, basically I've been spending much of the last couple of days spewing out villains, also working with very different ideas like making him a monkey, and I got a few good ones too, but my problem is that they tend to stray to far from what I would imagine would fit with my agent, but I am gonna put some extra energi into it tonight. And if I feel like I can't make a better villain at the moment, I think I am just gonna model this guy, and then have a look at what an extra dimention adds to him, maybe he'll work, or maybe it will spark my imagination.

And yeah I am planning on goin 100% blender (and ofcause a little ps). ;)

Rockin' it as always, Frederik :)
Great work on both guys.
I like you're going for a poster-setup and not a "still from a movie"-kinda image.

As told before, you should work on some texturing. Some color variations makes the world of difference in the face, and on hands.
Also a quick specular map is great, and pretty fast to do. So you differentiate the specular on the lips and nails with the rest of the skin.
You can also do so on the suit but it's not that big of a deal there, I think.

Looking foreward to see you model a girl. The are always a hazzle, because of the delicate feminin shapes, but I'm sure you'll pull it off great :)

Cheers and keep up the good work

@Doffer
Mjello mate ;)
Thanks man, definitely follow were your going, and I'll get on to some diffuse maps soon (think I'll finish all my models first)
Because the villain's head will play such a big role in the poster, I promise I'll put all I got into his texture ;)

And yeah kinda looking forward to modelling a woman, never really done that except the "cleaning lady" for our attempt to make a shot film, and really she was not that much of a woman :D

@vmulligan
Arrr, I don't think that show has ever aired in Denmark ;)

Anyway, its time to start modelling the girl, here are some of my sketches, I'm going for the middle one in the top row.
I've not really settled on the hair yet, but I'll take that as it comes along.

And I'll get down to the body soon, but I really need to get started on the model, cause I'm going to Croatia on vacation on Friday (hope there's an internet connection were we are staying)

But any way, let me hear it if you guys got any suggestions on the head. Any ideas for the hair, dress etc. let me know.

FINIALLY AN UPDATE, she turn out to be a real (I don't know how to put this without cursing), but it took a LOT of time, the model was done quite fast, but looked like s*** so I spend way to long tweaking it.

Any way here it is, I know she does not look much like the drawing. Don't know why but what ever...
The worst bit is that some guys at a Danish 3D forum asked me to record one of my sessions, and I did at this one, but it was totally useless, and I dare not look it through. Also I tried to convert the video file down but failed miserable and some how it ended up at 11 GB so the file filled my hard disk...
Frankly she was a lot of trouble.

But non the less, if you guys thinks she don't fit in the image (or maybe you just think the design sucks), please be honest.

(I'll put the progress Image tomorrow)

Elser

I'd like to start by saying that the whole style has worked really well thus far, and that you have some fantastic models. One thing that stands out about your female face though, is that it's not especially feminine. I'm no expert on faces, but I wonder about the effects of changing just a few proportions or maybe a little less muscle definition? I would do a quick google search to see what specifically makes a face seem more feminine or masculine. Also, I think you've created my favorite villain of all time.

Stormf
07-17-2009, 10:01 AM
@Elser
Thanks, I really appreciate your honesty, I've done a lot of image searching this morning, and decided to start designing a new girl, I just don't think I can save this one, and I've already spend way to much time on her.
And I really appreciate your last comment, that is so awesome to hear :D. And it makes impossible for me to settle with a female agent, that I am not 100% pleased with my self.

So back to the drawing board ;)
Hopefully I'll have a sketch ready before I'm off to Croatia.

I've been working on getting the shapes right for long time now, and I think I finally might be on to something, hopefully a lot more female than my previous attempt.

So (unless they got an internet connection at the place we are staying in Croatia) see you guys in 14 days, were hopefully, I'll have an update ready :D

Got some comments. The big evil guys collar looks a bit weird when they end, and curve downward. Looks a little bit weird I think, even if its a design-point. I dont like the eyebrows shape too much either, the way they curve up in the middle of the brow, and ends in a narrow shape near the middel of the head, makes him look a little bit more surprised than actually evil or angry etc.

About the girl, I actually like the design of your first one most. Maybe trying to define the nose a little less, and making in shorter might help on her girlish features. Maybe he upper lip is a little too exagerated too.. dunno.

Some thoughts atleast :)

keep it up and good luck!

Now that you mention it, you are absolutely right about the villain's eyebrows, I'll take a look at that. I don't know about the collar, but I'll take a look at it ;).

There is still some work to be done on the girls design, but I just wanted to post something before I went on vacation, to get some fast critique ;)
I doubt that I'll go back to the old design, unless I spot where the exact problem whit her is.

But thanks for sharing your thoughts, that was exactly what I was looking for ;)

Back from vacation, was great, but unfortunately I did not get nearly as much work done as I hoped, but I'll post what I've got later tonight. Got a gun, girl (only the head :() and a briefcase to show, non of it 100 % finished, so the next days are gonna be busy, but I am still hoping to make the deadline.

Used a Walter PPK for reference, though this one is far from correct ;)

Second went a lot smoother, and I feel quite pleased with her so far, will be doing some more work on the hard.

Anyway let me hear what you think ;)

Got the model done, now hopefully I'll get on to texturing and possibly some rigging tomorrow.

Let me hear what you guys think ;)

@stouckol
Thanks, really appreciate it ;)

Anyway a small update, few changes to the body shape. And now I think it is time to get on with the texturing/rigging/skinning work if I wish to ever making it to the deadline.

Gotta get started posing them...

So the agent is now poseable (more or less, I am really bad at posing my figures, partly due to my poor skinning/riggig skills), on to the girl then. Hopefully she won't be as much trouble, given she ain't really got as many parts as my agent. But we'll see..

Edit: This pose is just one of my test poses.

I love all your male characters, maybe the girl needs more sexappeal in cartoon stile (something like Jessica Rabbit :P)

@Pencracker
Thanks, much appreciated, and hopefully I brought some of that lacking sexappeal to her with this render ;)

And good luck to you, your entry is looking crazy good ;)

So this is kinda what I am working at, still a lot to be done (unfortunately not a lot of time XD) and still working on the poses of the two other characters.

Nice progress!. Looks like you got something interesting between your hands. Keep it up! I like the characters, nice designs.

Tip: Be careful with the render engine, everything is looking a little plastic-ish.

@dimat
Thanks, so glad to hear you like them :D
And I'll take a look at the render, however my rendering skills are not very good, so I don't know how much better it's gonna get.

This is how the final image is gonna be like, of cause with some changes (I'll rendering the finale images very soon hopefully), have a few points I need to look.
But I'll be more than happy to hear it if you guys got something that would give it that last touch.

Just about to upload the final image.
And just as an info, the font used on the flying paper is the same as on the watch ;)

Was a lot of fun to make, though quite exhausting here in the last week. But I've leared A LOT, so I'm happy ;)

And good luck to everybody.

And thanks to anyone who took some time to drop a comment, I really appriciate it, can't thank you guys enough

(and sorry for doubleposting, I think I messes up the final image, by accidently uploading a smaller version afterwards)

Edit: And now the image isn't showing, hmm... well, guess I'll just have to hope its gonna pop up somehow, got the "upload ok" message.

nice character design! congrats for finishing.
if u allow me i would say that a bit more work on texturing and lighting could give it a strong boost.
