You can't use it for commercial work, that's the only restriction.

Yes they do just call maxon about it,
the restrictions are just that you cant sell the things you make, but other than that it is the same product.

I'm really interested in character animations, and is Cinema 4D a good tool to create character animations?

I've heard something like Mocca should be good with character animations. Is Mocca included in the Student version?

Before I knew about Cinema 4D I thought about buying Lightwave Educational version, but now I'm very confused.;)

We will see, but Cinema 4D looks really great.

I don't mean to be rude, but it seems like you need to research both programs a little more before you decide to purchase. Grab the demos for each program if you have not already and see which one you like best. As a student myself I much rather prefer cinema over the others.....just my .02
