View Full Version : Normal map weirdness (newbie question)

Hi all, relatively new to mudbox, but until now I've had little trouble getting it to do what I want. Anyway, I'm trying to export a normal map for a relatively basic piece of geometry. everything looks right aside from a few odd deformities that I can't seem to figure out. I'm fairly sure the uv map is ok.. I'll post it just to check however, you guys would likely know better than me.

Anyway, you can see the odd stuff I want rid of on the emblem and across that section.

any help you can provide would be great, thanks for your time reading.

Sorry to be a bother, but it's been a while since I posted this thread, does anybody here know anything about the problem I'm having? I really don't want to be pushy or anything but nobody seems to be posting at all.

Hey sorry been away for a while, there dosn't seem to be any thing wrong with the normal map, do you have the the model with the normal map on ?, maybe that will help to see where the problem is.

I think people arenít sure what you are referring to. Are you talking about the streak lines that cross the emblem and the two ridges at the front of your vehicle? Perhaps it might help to post a print screen image of the model while in Mudbox and have the normal map export window open so people can see your settings.

ahh I understand, sorry for not being clear in my initial post.

I am refering to the 'streak' lines across the emblem. unfortunately the mudbox file decided to break itself. but I have a screen of it inside maya, it makes the problem pretty apparent.

I donít want to leave you hanging, but I donít know what to suggest. There are people here with more experience who might suggest a fix. The only thing I can think of is the file could have been corrupt, which caused the normal map to come out weird. My only tip is when making a save do a new file save. In the past I saved over an old file and ended up with a corrupt file.

I very much appreciate the advice, it is possible it's just a glitch I guess, maybe someone will have encountered this before or something, I can but hope.
