I want to solve the main problem from my helicopter modeling!
here is the picture that i want to achieve

My model looks unrealistic, beacause my helicopters board is smooth without any shells!
How can i obtain like this shells? and here is another one

Paint some Displacement or Bump maps.

or by appling just a texture with that looks like displacement
can sell the effect ...

THANX GUYS FOR ANSWER, But i saw many models that they have a lot of shells without any textures, how they are do this? is it Displacement modefier? for example see picture #2, it's without texture, but have many many shells! I will be pleased for answer!

yeah like Piflik (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=324016) with bump or displacement you can achive what you want.

well just :
add a displacement ,
or bump ,
texture ,
or just add detail by modeling in zbrush , but it's not a good option

You can also model them by hand...but I wouldn't want to do that...

If your mesh was built with "plating" in mind, then shell modifier the hell outta that thing for each panel and add some random damage.
If not, you can still create shells by doing booleans on the subdivided mesh. Clone your mesh, subdivide and collapse, create booleans, add shell modifier to each newly created plate...im no vehicle artist tho.

General rule of thumb: "If the detail is to be seen up close or creates shadows, use displacement, otherwise, use bump."
So, it really depends on the shot length, output resolution, but it's definitely one or the other.
