What solutions exist for making car tracks in snow or mud? I'm thinking of something like Surface Effectors that would allow me to draw arbitrary tracks onto a surface, but in the bump channel. AFAIK SE 1.1 does not yet do that and SE2 isn't out.
I'd like an SE-like solution so I can do tracks to arbitrary animations.
anybody got any ideas, crazy hacks, plugins? thanks!!

Worley's Acid plug-in would be an easy way to do this:

If you don't want to go with the commercial plug-in route, you can achieve a similar effect using one of the fake boolean plug-ins. Check this thread for details:

You can do it with motion designer, there was something with a ball thru sand somewhile ago here on cgtalk. Could be a real PITA to get right.
Or with two objects , the track without ,uh, tracks and the track with tracks on it and dissolve them at the right moment. Old scool stuff.
On a related topic, how did you rig your car?
Would love to know it, because I am rigging a car atm and having some issues.

First off, we already have Acid here, so now we finally have an excuse to figure it out. Second, that animated boolean stuff is :drool: city. I'm going to figure that one out next.
